Bullriding captures interest of city teen

At 8, rodeo rider grabs life by the horns
[Oct. 17, 2007] The next great American bull rider is training in the hills of Perkiomenville, and his name is Boot-T-Boot. He is an 8-year-old boy who was born in West Philadelphia, and he'll be showing off his skills next weekend in an exhibition at the third annual Philadelphia Rodeo & Fall Festival at the Devon Horse Show grounds, a benefit event for the NephCure Foundation in Berwyn, which raises money to fight kidney diseases.
 
Junior Rodeo champ strikes again
[Oct. 8, 2007] Rodeo is life for young Lemitar cowboy Garrett Jacobs. You can't make it much simpler than that. He practices every day and it shows when it comes time to rodeo.

Garrett, age 9, competed in the New Mexico Junior Rodeo Association Championships in Gallup Sept. 21-22. He won first place in breakaway roping, step-down roping, calf riding and goat tying to walk away as the 2007 NMJRA Champion.
 
Miniature cowgirls and cowboys: Junior Rodeo big draw at Shiprock Navajo Fair
[Oct. 5, 2007] When it came to size, Springsky Chee's horse had her by about 1,000 pounds. At age 3 and weighing in at 30 pounds, Springsky was the youngest and lightest contestant in the 96th Shiprock Navajo Fair Junior Rodeo.
 
The Rodeo Kings
[Sep. 26, 2007] More than 100 young cowboys and cowgirls will strap on chaps and spurs this weekend for the 2007 Ozark Junior Rodeo Finals, to take place at Parsons Stadium.

None will be more prominent than the King family of Bentonville. The Kings -- parents Doug and Elizabeth, and children J.C., Garrett, and Katelyn -- will all be participating in the two-day event, set to begin Saturday at 2 p.m. and continue through Sunday.

Youth learns the daunting art of bullfighting
[Sep. 6, 2007] Tanner Melsaether does a few side bends and arches his shoulders to stretch. He is dressed in baggy shorts loose enough to let him move freely and cover his hip and knee pads. His plaid shirt hides a protective vest. And his black-brimmed cowboy hat shadows his bright eyes and round, baby face. Bright yellow knee socks will keep his legs from being scratched by the grit of the arena and may capture the attention of a bull.
 
Win at Lakeside rodeo gives Popko CJRA points lead
[Aug. 31, 2007] Kerry Popko returned to the lead in the California Junior Rodeo Association’s Pole Bending points standings by winning that event August 18 at the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds.

The August CJRA competition also marked the junior rodeo debut of Fallbrook’s Alyssa Clukey, who finished fifth in her first-ever CJRA Pole Bending competition.

"I feel I have a lot to live up to, but it doesn't feel like a lot of pressure," Gjermundson said. "What I've learned from competing in rodeo is sportsmanship. I know I can't always win."
