The 61st Annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) is officially off and running in Farmington, New Mexico. This year's event features a total of 1,375 contestants from the United States, Canada, and Australia. Rodeo performances will be held at 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM daily, with the championship round to be held on Saturday, July 25th at 7:00 PM. This is the fourth appearance of the event at the San Juan County Fairgrounds in Farmington, with previous appearances in 2002, 2003, and 2008.

"This is what everyone works so hard for all year long," says Kent Sturman, Executive Director of the National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA). "All of the national directors, state and provincial secretaries, volunteers, and staff have put in an incredible number of hours to make the
61st installment of the NHSFR the best that it can be. For us, this is the big pay- off."

"The NHSFR is simply a great place for contestants and families to relax and celebrate the sport that
they love," says Sturman. "In addition to the thirteen rodeos, there is also a trade show full of great
western wares, a volleyball tournament for NHSRA members, and so much more. Plus, the new
NHSRA Queen for the 2009- 2010 year will be crowned in the coming week as well."

For more information on the NHSFR and the National High School Rodeo Association, contact
NHSRA Media Director, Mike Hausmann, at mike@nhsra.org

The National High School Rodeo Association is one of the fastest growing youth organizations in
the nation, with an annual membership of over 10,500 students from 41 states, five Canadian
provinces and Australia. The Association sanctions over 1,100 rodeos each year. The NHSRA is gov-
erned by a national board of directors, which consists of one member from each state or province.
A staff at the national headquarters in Denver, Colorado, handles the day- to- day operations. For
more information on the NHSRA, visit the association's official website located at www.nhsra.org.
