Rodeo team building on recruitment explosion[Sep. 3, 2009] The Fort Hays State University Rodeo Team feels it has a lot to be proud of coming into the 2009 fall season.
With a membership increase of nearly 317 percent, many members are looking forward to being one of the top teams in the region.
“Nothin’ But Try” Scholarship Expands[Aug. 5, 2009] Winn Ratliff from McNeese State University (Lake Charles, La.); Aaron Skinner from College of Southern Idaho (Twin Falls) and Jake Woolstenhulme from Utah Valley University (Orem) received “Nothin’ But Try” scholarships from the NIRA Foundation. The scholarship was created three years ago to honor Shane Drury, a former college rodeo champion that never gave up on living in spite of having terminal cancer. Rodeo and education were two things that were very important to Drury. He was on hand to present the first of the six scholarships that have been awarded. By Susan Kanode
MIKEL J. MORENO SCHOLARSHIP AWARD NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS[Aug. 4, 2009] (Pueblo, Colo.)-- Applications for the 2009 Mikel J. Moreno Scholarship Award are now being accepted by the ABBI (American Bucking Bull Inc.). National Barrel Horse Racing competition brings in millions to Jackson[Jul. 19, 2009] JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The thrill of barrel racing draws 1,800 young riders from all across the U.S., Canada and Italy to the Mississippi State Fairgrounds for the National Barrel Horse Racing Youth Championship."(There is) a new horse coming out of the alley every 30 seconds. Late announcer’s memory rides on at youth rodeo[Jul. 14, 2009] The rodeo announcer had worked the microphone for each of the previous 16 years of the youth rodeo and was scheduled to handle the chores again this year. But on May 20, McGee was struck by a pickup while mowing at his home near Valliant. The 47-year-old was thrown from the mower and died from massive injuries.

Over The Corral Fence[Jun. 25, 2009] Im delighted to learn the Pendleton Round-up Hall of Fame is inducting wonderful pioneer cowgirl and bronc rider Ollie Osborn this year. College Rodeo Champions Crowned in Wyoming[Jun. 21, 2009] On Saturday night at the Casper Events Center, it was Kollin’s young brother Ryan that was on the awards stage. He competed here with Trevor Connolly. They are both attending Southeastern Oklahoma State University. They won the title with a total time of 30.1 seconds.
