Women Take Spotlight at Second Performance of College National Finals Rodeo - 2nd Performance Results

CASPER, Wyo.- It was the women at the second performance of the College National Finals

The second performance saw three 2.3 second times in the breakaway roping, the fastest times of the rodeo so far. Hilary Bair from Utah Valley University; Nikki Stefes from the University of Wyoming and Kassi Venturacci from the University of Nevada – Las Vegas are all tied for first place in the third round of competition. Michele Lyons from Walla Walla Community College had one of the slower runs of the night at 5.0 seconds, but because of her performance in the two previous rounds, she now leads the over-all standings with a total time of 11.6 seconds on three runs.

There is a new leader in the barrel race as well. Haley Nelson from South Plains College, had a 14.08 second run. This is also the fastest barrel racing time of the rodeo so far. Nelson moved up to fourth place in the over-all standings and is likely to qualify for Saturday night’s finals. Rachel Tiedeman from South Dakota State University is still atop the leader board with a total time of 43.23 seconds. Cassie Ward, younger sister of former world champions barrel racer and college champion Janae Ward is in second with 43.51.

Shannon Jones who is a third generation rodeo competitor is in third with a total of 43.55. Jones is attending Cal Poly State University – San Luis Obispo and is the daughter of John W Jones, a three-time world champion steer wrestler .

There was only one bull rider to make it to the eight-second mark on Wednesday. Jacob Buller from Central Wyoming College rode Patriot for 77 points. There is only one bull rider here so far that has been successful on all three attempts.


The third performance of the rodeo gets underway at the Casper Events Center on Thursday at 7 p.m.
