SAN ANTONIO, Texas ---With three performances of the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo now complete, it is bareback rider Matt Bright that has taken center stage.

The Azle, Texas, bareback rider is one of a handful of contestants that have placed in all three rounds, but he stands alone as the high-money winner so far. He earned $2,074 for winning the first and second rounds of competition in the AT & T Center, and finished third in the third round.

During Saturday’s matinee performance, he finished atop the leader board with an 85-point effort on Beutler & Son Rodeo’s Wonderland. His third round ride saw him finish behind traveling partners Ryan Gray and Bobby Mote. Gray, from Cheney, Wash., won the round on a horse from his native state, Flying Five Rodeo’s Rough Going. Gray is second in the total money rankings with $3,630 compared to Bright’s $5,185.

The top five contestants from each bracket will advance to a semi-finals. With just one more round in this bracket, both of these bareback riders are making plans to come back to the Alamo City on Feb. 18 & 19 with hopes of advancing to the finals on Feb. 20.

Other contestants that are making plans to be back here are Bryce Miller from Buffalo, S.D., Brittany Pozzi from Victoria, Texas, Danyelle Campbell from Beaumont, Texas and Souli Shanklin from Rocksprings, Texas. Miller has placed in three round of saddle bronc riding and has total earnings of $3,370. Pozzi and Campbell have been the most consistent barrel racers here so far. Pozzi is at the top of the standings with $4,926 while Campbell is just below here with $4,408.

Shanklin from Rocksprings, Texas, has also placed in every round so far. He won the second round at Saturday’s matinee performance with an 86-point effort on Carr Pro Rodeo’s bull Roll the Dice. Then he was one of two men to have qualified rides on Saturday night finishing second. His total money stands at $4,926. Saturday night’s bull rideing was won by Tyler Smith from Fruita, Colo., on D & H Cattle Company’s Slim Chance.

There is one performance of the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo Sunday at 1 p.m. This will be the last opportunity for this group of contestants to earn any money. At the conclusion of Sunday’s rodeo, the semi-finals qualifiers from this bracket will be determined.
