Houston, TX - Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ officials announced today that BP has signed a major deal to become the first-ever title sponsor of the RodeoHouston Super Series, the world's richest regular-season Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo.
BP's sponsorship extends an existing partnership and allows the company to tie its brand to the series, which will be named the RodeoHouston BP Super Series. The Super Series rodeo - a bracket-style competition - was created prior to the 2007 Show, when the organization celebrated its 75th anniversary. In 2009, the world’s best cowboys and cowgirls will compete for a total purse of more than $1.4 million. Each event champion will walk away with at least $50,000.
“We are thrilled that our partnership with BP will help us grow the sport while helping keep the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo affordable for families,” said Skip Wagner, the Show’s president. “It was important for BP that this sponsorship helps us keep ticket prices low and entertainment value high.”
“Since its inception, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has helped thousands of Texas students by awarding them more than $230 million toward scholarships and educational programs,” said BP America Chairman and President Bob Malone. “We are very proud to be a part of an event that is so much fun and which has done so much lasting good for the people of Texas and the city of Houston.”
