Late announcer’s memory rides on at youth rodeo
[Jul. 14, 2009] The rodeo announcer had worked the microphone for each of the previous 16 years of the youth rodeo and was scheduled to handle the chores again this year. But on May 20, McGee was struck by a pickup while mowing at his home near Valliant. The 47-year-old was thrown from the mower and died from massive injuries.

Thursday Night Barrel Racing Event Canceled Due To Wet Grounds
[Jul. 9, 2009] Friday, Saturday Events Still On As Scheduled Cushing) - Weather is impacting the Cushing Community Rodeo for a 2nd straight year. The Barrel Racing event at this year's Cushing Community Rodeo has fallen victim to inclement weather. The event was slated for tonight (Thursday) at the rodeo grounds. Torrential rainfall yesterday afternoon and again overnight has left the grounds to wet for the event to take place

Williams is World’s Greatest Roper
[Jun. 25, 2009] Nevada native and veteran all-around hand Preston Williams came from behind to win the 2009 World’s Greatest Roper event, held June 21 in conjunction with the Reno Rodeo.

The 34-year-old former college national all-around champion headed, heeled and tied 15 head of stock in just under 79 seconds to edge second-place Randon Adams for the $25,000 paycheck from Lazy E Productions.

[May 21, 2009] Mark Lynn McGee, 47, a 23-year vocational agriculture teacher and rodeo announcer was pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries after he was thrown from his lawnmower while mowing near his home and a county road.

GIT ALONG, LITTLE DOGGIES
[May 14, 2009] Sixty-six head of longhorns will be driven down Route 66, in memory of Clem McSpadden, Oklahoma Legend, Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer, and nephew of Will Rogers.


The steers will be driven twelve miles, from Bushyhead, OK. the home of McSpadden's famous pasture roping to the Will Rogers Stampede arena in Claremore. That section of highway was named for McSpadden several years ago. A chuck wagon feed for drovers and sponsors at the arena will follow at 2 pm. Wrangler Awards at National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum
[Apr. 27, 2009] The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum held their 48th Annual Western Heritage Awards Saturday, April 18th, 2009. The black-tie gala was held in the special events center in the museum. The Western Heritage Awards were established to honor and recognize individuals whose contributions in film, television, music, or literature has encouraged and honored the legacy of the American West. A handcrafted bronze sculpture, known as the “Wrangler” is awarded to each honoree. This year’s recipients join prestigious alumni including Clint Eastwood, Steven Speilberg, John Wayne, Bill Kurtis, Carroll Ballard, Kevin Costner, and Ed Harris among others. Bacone, Connors students place at rodeo competition in Weatherford
[Apr. 9, 2009] Rodeo coach Wes Marrel of Bacone College reports that students from Bacone College and Connors State College placed at the Panhandle State University’s National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) rodeo in Guymon this past weekend. Jake Morgan (Bacone) scored a 10.2 in calf roping in the first round and came back with a 12.6 in the short round, placing him fourth in the average with a 22.8.

DUNCAN, Okla. – An Oklahoman and a Texan met near the Red River over the weekend and walked away with the title during the Professional Bullfighters Daisy Protection Bullfight Tour competition that was part of the TwoBulls Challenge.

Fittingly, it was Team TwoBulls that came out on top. Chad Dowdy of Bristow, Okla., joined forces with Jordan Lee of Weatherford, Texas, to win the average championship and proving their ability in a pen full of the best bullfighters in the world at the Stephens County Expo Center. By Ted Harbin
