NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. (January 10, 2010) – Shane Proctor came out in round one of the PBR’s New York Invitational and, with a 91.25 point score on Bones (Teague Bucking Bulls), showed he would be a force in this weekend’s event.
He ended the weekend the same way he started it.
After three long rounds, and a championship short-go, Proctor wrapped up the New York Invitational with a 90.75 point ride on “RFD-TV” (Teague), winning the short-go and the event.
That ride wrapped up a storybook weekend for Proctor, who pocketed more than $46,000 for his powerhouse weekend. Proctor said he picked “RFD-TV” because it is a stable-mate of “Bones,” and hoped that would work out well.
Obviously it did.
Proctor rode “Walk the Line” (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve) in round three, splitting 2nd and 3rd in the round with Josh Koschel with 86.75 points.
Proctor wasn’t the only bull rider to make the most of his time in New York City, as three riders went four-for-four in Madison Square Garden.

Sharing second in the short-go and finishing second in the event average was New Mexico’s Travis Briscoe. Briscoe rode “Rapid Reaction” in Sunday’s round 3, and then scored 90 points on “RMEF Bugle” (Jeff Robinson) in the championship round.
The third rider to cover all four bulls was J.B. Mauney, whose weekend included being the first rider to successfully ride “Code Blue” (Walton & Wagoner/Berger & Struve), the PBR's 2009 Bucking Bull of the Year. That ride, in the short-go, was far from pretty, as Mauney was out of position most of the ride and spent at least the last four seconds hanging off the side of “Code Blue” by only his fingertips, yet somehow managing to not slap the bull or hit the ground. His score, a 76.25’er, put him fifth in the championship round and third in the average. Mauney rode “Backyard Big Rig” (Jeff Robinson/Pinnacle Bull Group) for 85 points in round 3, splitting 12th and 13th in the round.

The other two successful rides in the championship round were McKennon Wimberly, who stepped into the 90-point club riding “Smackdown” (Dakota Rodeo/C Berger/Struve/Julie Rosen); and Idaho’s Wiley Petersen, on Yellow Jacket Jr. (Dakota Rodeo/C Berger/John & Lacey Berger), for 85.25 points. It was his third score of the weekend, and Petersen finished the weekend fifth in the average.
Round Three

Two time PBR World Champion Chris Shivers, who headed into Sunday’s round scoreless for the weekend, made up for it by riding not one, but two bulls in the round. Shivers first took on the usually tough “SkyHawk Cut-a-Rug,” (Jeff Robinson/Pinnacle), which had an off day. After acting up in the chutes, “SkyHawk” took several leaps straight down the arena, never turning into a spin. With a score of 76.5, Shivers was awarded a re-ride.
The last ride of the round, Shivers took a re-ride on “Iron Broke” (Walton & Wagoner), and won the round with 87.5 points.
Sharing second and third in round 3 were Josh Koschel and Proctor, at 86.75 points. Koschel rode “Bird Creek” (Jeff Robinson/Leon Frakes).

There was a crowd at the 86.5 point mark, with four riders sharing 4th through 7th place. Elliott Jacoby got his first score of the weekend on “Buckshot” (Walton & Wagoner); Austin Meier secured spot 15 in the short-go with his ride on “The Juice” (Jeff Robinson); Valdiron de Oliveira, last week’s winner in Baltimore, rode “Live Wire” (Dakota Rodeo/C Berger/Struve/Rosen); and Sean Willingham headed into the short-go in 11th place, after riding “Bad Blood” (Dakota Rodeo/C Berger/Struve).
Willingham finished the event in 12th, and Oliveira in 11th, after both were unsuccessful in the short-go. Willingham bucked off “Major Payne” (Robinson/Katich/Pinnacle) at the 2.3 second mark and Oliveira lost his seat on “Bones” (Teague) at 3.3 seconds.
Aaron Roy rode “Nasty Town” (Dakota Rodeo/C Berger/Struve/Rosen) for 86.25 points in round 3, for 8th in the round. He went into the short go 5th in points, picked “Big Tex” (Dakota/C Berger/Struve), but Big Tex bucked him off at 7.4 seconds. He finished the event in 7th place.
Brian Herman found a spot on the scoreboard in round 3, taking 9th in the round with 85.75 points on “Larry the Cable Guy’s Smokey” (Jeff Robinson/Jeffrey Scott/Pinnacle). It came at a price, however, as before the chute gate ever opened, the bull slammed Herman, who wears a helmet, into the crossbar face first.

Rounding out the top 10 in round three was Caleb Sanderson, getting his first score of the weekend on “Colored by Bad” (Walton & Wagoner).
Nineteen riders put up qualified rides on their bulls in round three, after Ross Coleman, Luke Snyder and L.J. Jenkins each gambled on re-rides and lost. The only successful re-ride in the round went to Chris Shivers.
The final standings for the New York City event were:
1st Shane Proctor; 2nd Travis Briscoe; 3rd J.B. Mauney; 4th McKennon Wimberly; 5th Wiley Petersen;
6th Dustin Elliott (3.1 seconds on “Chicken on a Chain” (Robinson/Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy), a bull Elliott said he would pick every time he had a chance;
7th Aaron Roy; 8th Skeeter Kingsolver (7.0 seconds on “Lone Star” (Jeff Robinson/Pinnacle), after covering his bulls in round one and two); 9th Mike Lee (2.1 seconds on the always tough “Voodoo Child” (Robinson/Beutler/McNeeley), followed by Lee’s second hang-up of the weekend); 10th Josh Koschel (6.4 seconds on “Chance” (Teague)
11th Valdiron de Oliveira; 12th & 13th, split by Sean Willingham (2.3 seconds on “Major Payne” (Robinson/Katich/Pinnacle); and Ross Coleman (4.8 seconds on “Uncle Buck” (Teague) after taking a shot to the back of his neck in round three after bucking off)

14th, Rocky McDonald (2.4 seconds on “Show Stopper” (Dakota/C Berger/Struve); and 15th, Austin Meier (2.2 seconds on “Pinball Wizard” (Jeff Robinson/Pinnacle).

No injuries were reported in the event, although J.B. Mauney had to be helped out of the arena after his ride on Sunday, and had been limping all week, because of an injury to his knee. Ednei Caminhas, after competing in rounds one and two, did not compete on Sunday. No reason was stated.
