Kenny Chesney Wakes Up the Sun City Carnival

Summer isn't official until Kenny Chesney hits the road… so when “Good Morning America” was looking to lock down the “summer” in their “Summer Concert Series,” Kenny Chesney is always the first person they call. With this year's Corona Extra sponsored Sun City Carnival playing 12 stadiums, as well as arenas and amphitheaters, getting the man who's sold over a million tickets each of the past 7 summers into Manhattan isn't as simple as you'd think.

“We're everywhere, they're there and you've also got every tour in the world trying to find a date to be20part of GMA's Summer Series,” Chesney laughs. “Sometimes it's just about finding the way to make it fit for everybody… You go back and forth until finally the pieces fit. But there is nothing like New York City in the morning! That place wakes up alive and ready to rock!”

But come August 14th, Kenny Chesney hits Central Park - en route to his fifth straight SRO show at the New England Patriots' Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA - for a combustive appearance with Diane Sawyer, Robin Roberts and Chris Cuomo.

With his Greatest Hits II now in the stores - and “Out Last Night” having just ended a two week run at #1 on Billboard's Country Singles Chart - there's plenty of good music to choose from.

“That's been one of the cool things about this summer - and having a Greatest Hits out there,” Chesney says. “It reminds me of all the places and people we've met over the course of these songs! There are a lot of memories, a lot of faces and a lot of laughs tied up in these songs - and when you step back and20really think about all the places we've been, it's kind of amazing.

“And a record like this gives you the opportunity to go do something you might not otherwise,” continues the man 4-consecutive Academy of Country Music and 4-time and reigning Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year. “We haven't even thought about what we're gonna sing yet, but people may end up surprised. I think we might reach back for something a little bit fun - because having a good time with it makes being up at that hour worthwhile.”

Having already sold out Pittsburgh's Heinz Stadium, Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field and Chicago's Soldier Field, the momentum going into Boston is always at a fever-pitch. With tickets going clean in less than 10 minutes with no support acts announced, there is an intensity that comes with the Foxboro, MA play that makes it one of the highlights of every one of Chesney's tours. So, Central Park, the fans in New York City and everyone at “Good Morning America” will no doubt benefit from all that the build-up for sure.
