When the Professional Bull Riders World Finals started last Friday, Kody Lostroh from Colorado was in the number one spot in the World Standings. Three go-rounds later, Lostroh is still number 1. Lostroh's got a 429.25 point lead over JB Mauney from North Carolina, following a second place finish in Sunday's third go-round. The PBR World Finals will continue Thursday night in Las Vegas. Here's a look at what happened in the first three rounds. Round 1 - JB Mauney from North Carolina won the opening round with an 89.75 point ride worth $25,000. Josh Koschel from Colorado was second Friday night with an 89.25. Travis Briscoe from New Mexico was third, Brian Cantor from North Carolina finished fourth, Ross Coleman from Molalla, OR placed fifth, Ryan McConnell from Oklahoma finished 6th. Round 2 - 2008 PBR Australia National Champion Pete Farley made some magic Saturday night, riding the 2008 PBR World Champion Bull, Bones, owned by Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC, for a whopping 93.25 points to win round two of the PBR World Finals.

J.B. Mauney from North Carolina and Ryan McConnel from Oklahoma split second with a pair 91.25 point rides. Valdiron de Oliveira from Brazil finished fourth with a 90.5 point score. Grand Coulee, WA native Shane Proctor finished fifth, riding the bull King of Hearts, owned by Corey & Horst Rodeo Co. Inc of Moses Lake, WA.

Round 3 - 26 year old Robson Palermo from Brazil might end up winning the average at the PBR Finals for the second straight year.
Palermo, who rode 7 of 8 bulls at the Finals last year, has ridden all three so far this year, including a third round winning 92.25 score Sunday night to collect an extra $25,000.

Kody Lostroh from Colorado finished second in the round with a 91 point score. Brazilians made alot of money Sunday night. Thiago Paguioto, who qualified for the World Finals by winning five PBR International events in Brazil, finished third with an 89.75-point ride. Edimundo Gomes of Brazil was fourth with an 89.25-point ride.

The Wrangler NFR is a month away.
Here's a look, by the numbers - Courtesy of
It was one of those very rare weeks when there were no PRCA rodeos, allowing a few moments of quiet reflection on what lies ahead in just 30 days before being launched into the sound and fury that is the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
Here are some of this year's most compelling storylines - by the numbers:
7/11: Trevor Brazile has an $118,128 lead on the field in his bid to equal Ty Murray's record seven all-around world championships. If he wins that title and holds onto his $32,123 lead in the tie-down roping, Brazile will have 11 world championships, tying him for third place on the career list with Dean Oliver and Charmayne James.
31: By making the fields in steer roping, tie-down roping and team roping (with Patrick Smith), Brazile now has qualified for national finals events 31 times. That's fourth on the all-time list, just one back of boyhood idol Roy Cooper and Guy Allen; Tee Woolman holds the record with 42.
4: Brazile is all but assured of enjoying his fourth consecutive season with prize money of more than $300,000. He has earnings of $262,078, and anything like the sort of results he had last year in the National Finals Steer Roping (coming up Nov. 13-14) and the Wrangler NFR will break his PRCA record of $425,115, set in 2007.
233,504: That's the number of dollars bareback rider Clint Cannon banked this year in setting a PRCA regular-season earnings record for any individual event. He was never bucked off the entire season, a total of more than 200 rides.
8,021: That's the number of dollars separating steer wrestling leader Lee Graves from defending World Champion Luke Branquinho - the smallest lead in any event.

5.75 million: The total prize money for this year's 51st Wrangler NFR.

News and Notes -

The "A Tribute for Chris Ledoux ProRodeo" is this weekend.
I get to announce one of my favorite rodeos of the year this weekend. The award winning "A Tribute to Chris Ledoux" Pro Rodeo will celebrate it's fifth anniversary on Saturday night.
The "A Tribute to Chris Ledoux" Pro Rodeo is a mixture of fantastic western art, and the event that won the PRCA's Small Rodeo of the Year award in 2005. The rodeo was founded in honor of the former PRCA World Champion Bareback Rider, and country music superstar, who passed away in March of 2009 following a lengthy battle with liver ailments. Rodeo producer Dona Vold Larsen of the Triple V Rodeo Company says the fun starts Friday night with a terrific western art show. "The art show features Rowdy Barry, PRCA bullfigher who is an excellent artist, along with ten of the best western artists I could find. Saturday night we've got a full slate of contestants for the rodeo, after the rodeo Ned Ledoux plays in a band called Evans and Good Times, they'll be featured at the concert this year. It's a very popular rodeo, and we're very grateful for all the contestants who entered." The champion bareback rider will get a pair of spurs and have his name placed on the Chris Ledoux bronze. You can hear our complete interview with Dona on the blog page at www.prorodeolive.com. The "A Tribute to Chris Ledoux" Pro Rodeo's website is www.ledouxtributerodeo.com.
