A standing room only
crowd once again filled the small
Nebraska
town of
Scotia on June 14th.
The excitement began long
before the bullriding with the annual barbeque.
Of course the riders and production team were the town’s special
guest and were all made to feel like the celebrities of the day.
It is no wonder the riders are so anxious to attend this event.
Once everyone was well
fed the gates opened for the bullriding and in no time the bleachers were
full and action was underway. The
“Attack Pack” of Double S Bull Company seemed to know how they got
their name and went right to work winning more match ups than the cowboys.
It was not surprising that when it was time for the annual
Calcutta
for the bulls and riders in the six-man short go that the bulls were what
the crowd wanted. Committee
member and long time supporter of the
Scotia
event, Stella Marrow, purchased the bulls and as each rider met with the
same fate – a trip to the arena floor short of the 8-second buzzer –
her bid paid off to the tune of $2200!
Although the bulls had
quite a night the riders who represented several states and both the
Bullriders Of
America
(BOA) and the National Federation of Professional Bullriders (NFPB) gave
the fans a display of bull riding talent.
This was the first of several “Double Point” events for the
Extreme Bullriding Tour and with an M & M Camper among the prizes the
Year-end Champion will win there was lots of TRY in every ride.
In the end it was Andy Smith who took home the money and bonus
points with an 82 point ride.
The Extreme Bullriding
Tour is known for the “Tributes” they do during their events.
This year’s tribute for
Scotia
was extremely special for the committee and the community.
Featured in the tribute was committee members Russ and Annette
Bloom’s son, Adam Bloom. Adam
has assisted with the bullriding for years and is well known throughout
the community especially for his accomplishments in high school sports.
Adam is now a member of the
U. S.
Army and was home on leave prior to being deployed overseas.
It was obvious that this is one young man the community is proud
of!
We all have experienced a
bully on the playground at some time in our lives, but the “bully” in
funnyman and specialty act, Allan Dessel’s act “Bully on the
Playground” gives new meaning to the word!
Allan with the assistance of the bullfighters and a teeter-totter
does a totally awesome freestyle bullfight with one of the bulls as the
two bullfighters teeter-tottered with Allan and the bull weaving in and
out under the teeter-totter. Needless
to say the crowd loved it!
We often hear about how
cowboys manage to compete after taking a hard “crash”.
During the event bullfighter, Andy Thompson, took an extremely hard
hit and was assisted out of the arena.
Andy “cowboy-ed up” and in no time was back in the arena
protecting the cowboys.
The cowboys and personnel
showed their appreciation to the fans by holding an autograph session
following the event. The long
line of well wishers made it very clear that the fans enjoyed the show.
With excitement over in
the arena it was time for the annual dance.
Once again Mortie’s Bar was the host for the dance and the
evening ended with everyone having a wonderful time.
