Reigning World Champ surpasses $5 million in career earnings with Grudge Match win.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (September 12, 2008) - The top 45 bull riders in the world made their way to Grand Rapids, Mich., for the U.S. Border Patrol Invitational presented by Cooper Tires, the 27th stop on the elite Professional Bull Riders’ (PBR) Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS) tour. Texas bull rider Bryan Richardson (Dallas, Texas) took the round one win after riding his re-ride bull, Walk the Line, owned by Chad Berger/Clay Struve, for 88.5 points and added $2,730 to his pocketbook.

Finishing in second place was Rocky McDonald (Col. Juarez, Mexico) who took on Cheap Trick, owned by Hale/Hicks & McCracken, for 88.25 points and received a check for $1,950 for his efforts. Third place went to Colorado bull rider Ryan McConnel (Cortez, Colo.) who added $1,170 to his World Standings after his 88 point ride on North Dakota Kid (Chad Berger/Jim Quantaine). Rounding out fourth place was 2002 PBR World Champion Ednei Caminhas (P. Alves, SP, Brazil) who rode Lil’ Wicked, owned by Chad Berger/Clay Struve) for 87.5 points.

The Grand Rapids Grudge Match showcased two-time and reigning World Champion Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla.) and current world number one Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil). Each rider took on one bull each with the highest scored rider taking the $15,000 prize money. McBride chose the bull, Baby Blue, owned by the D&H Cattle Company, while Marchi was given the bull, Husker’s Terror of Chad Berger/Jim Quantaine. McBride covered his bull while Marchi was bucked off; therefore, McBride claimed the $15,000 prize money. With this check, McBride surpassed the $5,000,000 mark which makes him the richest cowboy in history!

The next two Grudge Match participants will be determined on Saturday, September 13 with the conclusion of the U.S. Border Patrol Invitational presented by Cooper Tires. The Grand Rapids event winner will “call out” one of his fellow riders from a list that includes previous World Champions, riders in the Top 10 BFTS standings, and 2008 BFTS event champions. With McBride riding his bull, the prize money for the next Grudge Match in Jacksonville, Fla., will be $5,000.

As the winner of round two at the Jack Daniel’s Invitational, Nick Landreneau (Sulphur, La.) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during round one of the U.S. Border Patrol Invitational presented by Cooper Tires. He took on the bull, Big Rig, but was bucked off before the eight seconds; therefore, D&H Cattle Company was awarded the $5,000 bonus. As the winner of round one at the U.S. Border Patrol Invitational presented by Cooper Tires, Bryan Richardson (Dallas, Texas) will be eligible to compete for the $5,000 bonus during the second round of competition.

The U.S. Border Patrol Invitational presented by Cooper Tires continues tomorrow as the top 45 bull riders compete in round two and the Built Ford Tough Championship Round to see who will take home the coveted Grand Rapids event title. The event airs on VERSUS at 8:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, September 13 and on FOX (local times will vary) on Sunday, September 14.
