Fort Madison, IA - The Bullriders of America (BOA) will be invading Fort Madison, Iowa on August 1-2 for their 2008 Finals. The action will be taking place each night at the Tri-State Rodeo Arena beginning at 7 PM and will feature the top 25 riders of the 2008 BOA season.
Leading the standings going into the finals is Jimmy Twedt with $9,276.49. Close in second place is Andy Smith who is hoping to turn his $7,879.24 into that prized gold buckle. Others in the hunt will be Dusty Green, currently in 3rd; Cody Stephens in 4th; and previous champion, Curt Check who is in 5th. There will be two rounds each night with the riders competing for a total of $10,000 in added money so it is easy to say no one has a lock on the championship at this point. Add that the riders will be competing on the best bulls the association stock contractors have to offer and you have a surefire formula for excitement!
The association members have honored several men to be their finals personnel. The are: Announcer – Troy Goodridge; Barrelman – Allan Dessel; Bullfighters – Bryon Buffington, Jeremy Muntz and Andy Thompson; and Judges – Justin Bane and Todd Crase. Barrelman, Allan Dessel has made quite a name for himself with his “Bully on the Playground” in which he “plays” with a bull while working around two men on a teeter-tooter combining his skill as a bullfighter with natural talent as a rodeo clown. He will be performing this act along with a new act he has introduced “Dance Evolution” which has also been given rave reviews.
Fans will also be treated to a freestyle bullfighting competiton sanctioned by the Midwest Bullfighters Association. There will be a four-man competition each night guaranteed to leave everyone on the edge of their seat!
Following each nights performance there will be a dance for fans, personnel and contestants. On riday night Staggard from Warsaw, Ill. will provide the entertinment. On Saturday night it will be Wild, Wild West from the Tri-State area.
Year-end awards and final awards will be presented in the arena following the final round at approximately 9:30 PM and then everyone will head for the dance to celebrate another year of bull riding and fun.
Tickets are $8 each in advance, $10 at the gate, while children 6 and under are free.
