Denver, CO (January 16, 2009) - The 103rd National Western Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) rodeo has always played a key role in the rodeo season. Acting somewhat like the Dayton of NASCAR, the National Western gives cowboys and cowgirls a launching pad for the year.

Coming off a spectacular National Finals Rodeo, team roper Turtle Powell comes to Denver ready to rope. And rope he did. Powell, with partner Travis Graves, are currently tied for first place in the first go-around with a time of 5.1 seconds.

“The run felt great tonight,” says Powell. “I just tried to make things happen on my end and give Travis (Graves) a good shot and he closed the deal. Now that we’ve got that run behind us we can start focusing on the second one.”

Powell, who qualified for his fourth NFR this past December, is optimistic about the 2009 season especially with a start like this. “It’s always good to kick off the rodeo year like this. It’s a long season with plenty of ups and downs, but after it is all said and done, it’s one run at a time.”

Powell’s roping equipment includes “The Heat” from Classic Ropes, a Coates Saddle, Classic Equine protective boots and Wrangler apparel.
