National Western Stock Show Rodeo Champions Crowned[Jan. 26, 2009] DENVER - The first of the building rodeos of 2009 is over and two home state cowboys were victorious.
Tim Shirley from Conifer, Colo., tied for the bareback riding championship and Josh Peek from Pueblo, Colo., won the tie-down roping and all-around championships. Shirley led the pack of 12 bareback riders coming into Sunday’s final round. He rode the Kesler Championship Rodeo horse named Silver Moon for 82 points to give him a total of 254 points and $11,217. Shirley started his winning ways by marrying his fiancée Mindy Downare on Saturday night. By Susan Kanode
Brothers Advance to National Western Final Rodeo Performance[Jan. 25, 2009] DENVER - Clif and Tuf Cooper will be battling it out in the tie-down roping at the final performance of the National Western Stock Show Rodeo...Clif, who qualified for last year’s College National Finals Rodeo moved into fourth place with two solid runs on Saturday with a total time of 17.9 seconds. Younger brother Tuf took the roping world by storm last year. He turned 18 in March, joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo where he won over $80,000. By Susan Kanode

Consistency is Key for Denver Rodeo Contestants[Jan. 23, 2009] DENVER - As the National Western Stock Show Rodeo is winding down, rodeo contestants are seeing that consistency is the key to qualifying for Sunday’s finals.
A perfect example of that is Jed...Moore, from Cheyenne, Wyo., who has ridden two bulls for 86 and 84 points. He had his second ride here on Thursday morning and is now in second place in the over-all standings with 170 points, just five points behind fellow Wyoming rider Kanin Asay, from Powell.
