ONTARIO, Calif. (September 27, 2009) - The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) took the world’s best bull riders to The Golden State of California for stop no. 28 on the elite Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) tour. The toughest bulls the PBR had to offer tested the top 40 riders as they invaded Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif., on September 26-27. In the end, current world no. 1 bull rider Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.) took the Dickies Invitational event title after riding top bull, Troubadour, owned by Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls, for 91.75 points. This is Lostroh’s fifth win of the 2009 BFTS season and his third win in California. He was one of only three men to ride all three of his bulls over the weekend where he totaled 265.25 points and added a check for $41,373 to his bank account.

“I think the California government is setting this up so they can tax me—kind of like a California stimulus plan,” the no. 1 rider in the world joked in the winner’s circle. “Seriously though, right now, I’m trying not to think a lot about the World Championship race. If I’m looking back, I can’t look forward to where I want to go. I’m just trying to do my job and let the judges figure out who the winner is.”

In round one, Lostroh finished in a split for sixth and seventh place after riding the bull, Shaggy, owned by Hyland Cattle Company, for 85.5 points. He claimed the round two victory after taking on the bull, Devil’s Night of 4C’s Bucking Bulls/Marvin Nixon, for 88 points, giving him a total of 173.5 points and putting him in first place on two bulls. He entered the Built Ford Tough Championship Round draft with the no. 1 pick and chose to ride a familiar foe, Troubadour, who he has teamed up successfully with three times in his career—twice in 2009 and he collected event wins at both. Lostroh covered the top bull for 91.75 points, winning not only the Championship Round, but also the Dickies Invitational event title.

“That bull (Troubadour) bucks really hard every time and he doesn’t give you time to think about it,” Lostroh said. “He did a big fake to the left, went back to the right, and it really worked out. This is the third time I’ve had him and he’s been great every time.”

2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil) took second place after riding all three of his bulls for 257.25 points, collecting a check for $14,388. Taking third place was LJ Jenkins (Texico, N.M.) who scored 252.5 points over the weekend, riding for a check for $9,819. This was the fourth of the last five events that Jenkins has placed in the top 3 standings of the event. Jenkins’ cousin, Austin Meier (Kinta, Okla.) took fourth after scoring 174 points and collecting a check for $7,783 while back-flipping Brazilian Renato Nunes (Buritama, SP, Brazil) rounded out fifth place with 172.75 points and added $5,563 to his 2009 earnings.

The race for PBR’s 2009 million dollar world title is getting down to the wire and the top 40 bull riders in the world are heading to Oregon for the GoDaddy.com Invitational, stop no. 29 on the prestigious BFTS tour. PBR will buck into Portland’s Rose Garden Arena on October 2-3, showcasing the best bull riders and the toughest bulls in the country. The VERSUS network airs PBR events every Saturday and Sunday evening. Be sure to check www.pbrnow.com for upcoming cities, ticket information, and complete broadcast times.

Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during round one of the Dickies Invitational. Because he did not make the eight second whistle on the bull, Chili, the stock contractor, Flying U/Cindy Rosser Bucking Bulls, took home the $5,000 bonus.

Due to his round one win at the Dickies Invitational, 2009 Daisy Rookie of the Year contender Elliott Jacoby (Fredericksburg, Texas) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best) bonus during round two of the Ontario event. Jacoby made the eight second whistle on his re-ride bull, White Lies, owned by Ryan McClure; therefore, he collected the $5,000 bonus.

The Ford F-150 Challenge contestant who finishes the highest in the event aggregate during the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals will win $50,000 towards the purchase of a brand-new 2009 F-150 truck.

Salem NationaLease Bull of the Event:
The bull, Lone Star, owned by Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls/Bar None, earned Bull of the Event honors with a score of 46 points. This honor is acknowledged by an award of $1,250 going to the top bull of each event as determined by the PBR judges’ bull score.
