August 5, 2008 - WOW, What an action packed week it was for Rodeo Attitude and its members! Here are just a few highlights from the weekend...
Fort Madison, IA – 2008 Bullriders Of America Finals
Rodeo Attitude Members were plentiful at the 2008 Bullriders of America (BOA) Finals this year and were honored with numerous awards for their accomplishments in 2008. The Extreme Bullriding Tour won every eligible award except for Bull of the Finals, what an accomplishment, way to go crew! Other members being honored were Andy Thompson and Jeremy Muntz as Bullfighters of the Finals; Allan Dessel, Barrelman of the Finals and Specialty Act of the Finals; Justin Bane and Todd Crase as judges; Waylon Perry did the special effects and of course hardworking Hallie Dessel was Secretary of the Finals.
Dodge City, KS – Rodeo Clown Reunion
Dodge City Days were the host this year for the Bi-annual Rodeo Clown Reunion which was a fabulous success with 31 clowns attending. To the delight of both fans and contestants the clowns joined in the action at the rodeo and around town. Gail Woerner, director of the reunion, was pleased the committee at the rodeo and the town had shown all the retired rodeo clowns a wonderful time. Gail has a regular column on Rodeo Attitude and is known world wide for her expertise in the history of rodeo and all things “cowboy”.
Maxwell, IA - Old Settlers Rodeo and Picnic
I’ve lived here for almost 41 years and no matter how many events a year I go to I always have a warm spot for this one. This year was extra special since it was our towns 125th birthday. I am proud to say my daughter, Carolyn Laffey, was the vice-president of the committee and along with president, Randy Prichard, and the rest of the committee they did an exceptional job. Carolyn was instrumental in bringing Rodeo Attitude member, Ransom Vance and his mechanical bull – Ride-A-Bull, LLC – as part of the fun. From the time he set up until he closed there was always a crowd. Lots of laughter and future bullriders, even this old lady took a crack at it. Thankfully, Ransom went easy with the controls! Oh well, my grandkids got a good laugh!
The Annual Old Settlers Rodeo was produced by Rodeo Attitude Member Rite-n-Gear and sanctioned by member association Iowa Rodeo Cowboys Association (IRCA) as well as the United Rodeo Association (URA). The crowd was treated to a well run show with lots of contestants competing for a top spot at the year-end finals coming up in the fall. There wasn’t any lack of spectators as the capacity crowd cheered on the contestants.
Nashville Recording Artist, Jason Brown, headlined the entertainment Friday night with a 3 hour concert after the rodeo. Rodeo Attitude's Webmaster and as many call him “The Wizard”, Jim Meyers, assisted his sister and the Old Settlers Committee this weekend and got a terrific surprise when Jason Brown pulled into town with his tour bus. James and Jason had been very close friends as boys and spent many years running around the Iowa State Fair together. They had lost track of each other when Jason moved to Texas over 20 years ago. They were both glad to have been reunited and spent a couple hours catching up and doing some fishing before Jason's concert. I personally predict Jason is well on his way, you can bet you will be seeing a lot more about him on Rodeo Attitude! Let’s put it this way – my official review – 5 stars! Check out Jason and the "We're All In The Same Boat", music video at www.jasonbrowncountry.com.
Glendale, AZ - PBR Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS)
Clayton Williams, won his first BFTS tour event in Glendale, AZ. He rode all three of his bulls, including a previously unridden bull, for a total of 251.25 points and added $28,100 to his bank account. Clayton was the 2007 Rookie of the Year for the PBR and has twice won the lucrative US Smokeless Tobacco Challenger Tour Finals. We are proud to have him as a member of our program.
With so much going on can’t wait to see what next week brings! Remember “it’s all about attitude - so make it a Rodeo Attitud
