RENO, Nev. – Clayton Foltyn got some sweet revenge on Thursday night at the Dodge Xtreme Bulls presented by B&W Trailer Hitches at the Reno Rodeo. Foltyn of El Campo, Texas, was matched with Big Bend Rodeo’s Firebird in the final round and he didn’t let this one get away from him posting a 95-point ride, the highest of the night. With his 86.5-point ride from the first round on Flying U Rodeo’s Mikel’s Kat he easily took the average title with 181.5 points on two head in front of a record crowd of 5,602.

“It felt good to get some revenge tonight,” Foltyn said. “I had that bull a couple months ago in Billings (Mont.) and he slung me across the arena. I wasn’t going to let that happen to me again tonight. I lost my rope there at the end but I wasn’t about to let go. I was happy it all worked out and it will be a good check on top of that. I needed that.”

Foltyn collected checks totaling $13,596 and is now ready to set the rodeo world on fire this summer. Foltyn was planning ahead and hoping for good things when he came to Reno.

“I decided to enter several rodeos over the next few weeks hoping that things would start clicking for me,” said Foltyn. “This win could be the turning point for sure. We will just have to wait and see.”

2008 World Champion Bull Rider Wesley Silcox of Payson, Utah, finished behind Foltyn with 158 points on two head. Silcox elected to not take his reride bull in the first round and entered the final round with a 75. Once in the finals, Silcox rode Growney Rodeo’s Golden Ghost for 83 points to move to the top of the average leaderboard until Foltyn got his turn on Firebird.

The only Nevada cowboy to make the final round was Jake Wade of Alamo. He did not have a qualified ride in the first round but since there were not 12 qualified rides officials went back to total time. Wade made the cut as the last guy to get in the top 12. He was able to pick up a check in the final round after posting a 92-point ride on Hawaiin Ivory. The check totaled $2,385.

The first performance of the Reno Rodeo will begin at 7 p.m. PT on Friday.
