PUYALLUP, Wash. – Bull rider Steve Woolsey turned in two eighty-plus rides to finish atop the average leaderboard at the second of four Ariat Playoffs in Puyallup, Wash., on Saturday night.
Woolsey, of Payson, Utah, won the first round with an 89-point ride on Western Rodeo’s Rough and Ready and followed it up with an 82-point ride on Salt River Rodeo’s Tough to Call in the second round to finish with 171 points on two head and easily move into the semifinal round.
Jarrod Craig of Hillsboro, Texas, won the second round with a 90-point ride on Western Rodeo’s Rough and Ready, which was enough for him to advance to the semifinal round after only six guys turned in two qualified rides.
The top eight in the average will compete on Sunday afternoon. All scores and times will be erased and everyone will start with a clean slate. The top four times and scores will advance to the final round and the top time and score in the final round will be crowned the champion of the Ariat Playoffs for the Puyallup Round.
Barrel racer Sherrylynn Johnson swept the first two rounds and the average, while dealing with kidney stones. Johnson, of Henryetta, Okla., won the first round in a time of 14.90 seconds and stopped the clock in 15.02 seconds to win the second round. She easily won the average with a two run time of 29.92 seconds.
Semifinal round action begins at 1:00 p.m. PT at the Western Washington Fairgrounds.
