SAN ANTONIO - Clint Cannon couldn’t have been any happier with his ride in the semi-finals at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo.

Cannon is a second-generation bareback rider from Waller, Texas. Prior to the semi-finals, he had won $2,852. He won the semi-finals with an 89-point effort on the Frontier Rodeo horse named Joy Ride. It put the joy in the gregarious cowboy who now has qualified for the finals with a total of $4,926 in earnings.

In steer wrestling, it is Casey Martin who leads the pack. The Sulphur, La., tied for third place on Wednesday night but has total earnings of $4,148. The fast time of the night went to Tyler Pearson from Louisville, Miss., who stopped the clock in 3.6 seconds. Pearson also won enough money to advance to the finals.

Tuf Cooper is making his first appearance in the AT&T Center in 2009 but fans would never know it. Cooper, will turn 19 in March, and is quickly becoming one of the most recognized tie-down ropers in the sport. He qualified for his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo last December. Cooper had the fast time of the night at 7.7 seconds and advances to the finals in third place.

In the saddle bronc riding, it was Chad Ferley that was at the top of the leader board in both categories. Ferley, from Oelrichs, S.D., rode Frontier Rodeo’s Ravishing Ruby for 85 points. He is now the high money winner of the rodeo so far at $7,519.

The second performance of semi-finals starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday night. The contestants from each semi-finals that don’t advance to the finals will compete again on Friday.

These contestants will have their third and final performance on Tuesday trying to qualify for the semi-finals.
