SAN ANTONIO - A night after being knocked out and physically taken out of the arena, bareback rider Will Lowe won the round.

On Saturday night, the three-time world champion from Canyon, Texas, had a successful ride on Cervi Championship’s Multichem Hi Line, scoring 83 points and finishing in second place. As he got his hand out of the bareback rigging, the horse took another big jump and sent Lowe to the ground. Lowe was unconscious. The Justin Sports Medicine Team took him out of the arena where he was evaluated.

Lowe returned to the AT&T Center on Saturday afternoon and showed the fans that a little bump on the head wasn’t about to slow him down. He scored 87 points on Billy the Kidd, a horse from the Harry Vold Rodeo Company. That earned Lowe an additional $2,074 and made him the high money winner in bareback riding from the fourth bracket of competition. He will be back here to compete in the semi-finals on Thursday night and will be hoping to qualify from there to Saturday night’s finals.

Joey Bell Jr., who competed in steer wrestling was the highest money winner in the fourth bracket. Bell, originally from New York, won just under $5,000. Bell is not ranked in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association standings, so any money earned here will help him in his quest for a fifth Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualification.

The fifth bracket of competition started here on Sunday night. Wesley Silcox, the 2007 world champion bull rider set the crowd on fire with a 92-point ride on the bull named Hot Diggity Damn from Cervi and Guidry.

In the barrel racing, Annesa Self from Valley View, finished in first place to win $2,074. Self rode her great buckskin gelding named Dillon around the pattern in 13.93 seconds. JoJo Lemond, from Andrews, Texas, just started roping with the world champion heeler, Randon Adams from Logandale, Nev. They were the most successful team ropers Sunday night stopping the clock in 4.7 seconds to win $2,074 each.

These contestants will have their second round competition at the AT&T Center on Monday night beginning at 7 p.m.
