SAN ANTONIO --- Prior to Friday night’s San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo performance, bareback rider Bobby Mote, spent his time in the Justin Sports Medicine Room with his foot immersed in ice.

At Thursday night’s rodeo, he injured it while competing, limped out of the arena and was examined by volunteer doctors at the rodeo. Mote had placed third in the first round of competition, was out of the money in the second and needed a good ride in the third to advance to the semi-finals.

After x-rays determined that he did not have any broken bones, Mote was able to compete on Friday and was certainly glad that he did. At the very least he is riding with a severe sprain, but he still managed to ride Calgary Stampede’s horse Knight Rocket for 89 points. That earned him $2,074 for a first place finish and along with reigning world champion Justin McDaniel, from Porum, Okla., Mote earned a total of $3,111 to tie for first place in the third bracket. He will be having an MRI on his foot on Monday to determine if there was any ligament damage done and will do his best to stay off of it until then.

The big money winners in the fourth bracket both came in the barrel racing and both came from Texas. Savanah Reeves from Dublin, finished in the number one spot with $5,445. Right behind her came Gidding’s resident Jackie Jatzlau who won $5,185.

Barrel racers here have been going all out and in the first two brackets action saw a lot of penalties for tipped barrels. The women competing in the third broke the trend with only one barrel out of 108 turned over. The fastest time of the group came on Friday night when Jatzlau took her palomino mare, Princess, around the cloverleaf pattern in 13.82 seconds.

Cade Swor, from Chico, Texas, has three Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifications under his belt, from 2004-06. He missed the past two, but if the rodeo here is any indication he will be back there in 2009. Swor has won the last two rounds of competition with times of 8.5 and 7.7 seconds respectively. He also won a check in the first round and will be back for the semi-finals.

The fourth bracket of contestants will have their first and second rounds of competition in the AT&T Center on Saturday, at 1 and 7:30 p.m.
