SAN ANTONIO --- There are several cowboys that are continuing their winning ways here after being successful at other rodeos.

Fort Worth champions Tyson Durfey and Turtle Powell and Travis Graves made their first appearance here and were atop the leader board. Durfey, a tie-down roper from Colbert, Wash., stopped the clock in 7.3 seconds to win $2,074. The two-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier has become known as quite a philanthropist. He always competes in a pink shirt to support the Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign and gives a percentage of his winnings to Susan G. Komen for the cure. He will be back here two more times before the semi-finals and hoping to increase his earnings as well as the amount he gives back.

Turtle Powell and Travis Graves won the team roping title in Fort Worth. With Powell, from Stephenville, Texas, heading and Graves, from Jay, Okla., heeling, they stopped the clock in 5.4 seconds. This was a tie for first place with Brandon Beers, from Powell Butte, Ore., and Jade Corkill, from Fallon, Nev. Each of these ropers collected $1,815.

In bareback riding, Bobby mote, from Culver, Ore., finished in third place with an 86 to win $1,307. Mote also won a title in Fort Worth. There was a tie for first and second. Last year’s rookie of the year, Jared Smith, from Snyder, Texas, and Bo Casper from Fort Scott, Kan., each had 87-point rides to win $1,815 a piece.

Steer wrestler Trevor Knowles from Mount Vernon, Ore., wowed rodeo fans at last year’s Wrangler National Finals Rodeo when he won nearly $90,000 in the final five of 10 rounds. The San Antonio audience got a taste of that when Knowles brought his steer to the ground in 3.5 seconds. Knowles also won $2,074.

These contestants will be making their second of three appearances in the AT&T Center on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.
