SAN ANTONIO --- Last Thursday, Clayton Savage from Casper, Wyo., won over $23,000 at the Xtreme Bulls event at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo.
Savage will return to the AT&T Center on Wednesday to compete in the rodeo, but in the meantime his fellow Wyoming bull riders are having success. Kanin Asay who is a reserve world champion from Powell competed in the first bracket and was successful enough to advance to the semi-finals which will be held Feb. 18 and 19. Bobby Welsh, from Gillette won the first round in the second bracket and most likely will advance to the semi-finals as well.
Welsh is coming off of his own Xtreme Bulls win. He earned over $11,000 there and his momentum is keeping things going his way. Welsh rode the D & H Cattle Company Bull number 553X to win $2,074. The final Wyoming resident to get a check in bull riding was Seth Glause from Rock Springs. Glause tied for second with Jake Wade from Alamo, Nev., with an 86-point score. They each earned $1,296.
Glause is coming off of his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualification. He also qualified for last year’s College National Finals Rodeo in saddle bronc riding and bull riding. He won money in saddle bronc riding at this year’s National Western Stock Show Rodeo in Denver and is a definite all-around contender.
All of the contestants in the second bracket compete again on Monday and Tuesday night. Those performances start at 7:30 p.m. At the conclusion of Tuesday night’s event, the top four money earners in each event will make their plans to return for the semi-finals.
