National Western Stock Show and Rodeo

DENVER, CO. - Cowboys from Wyoming have been rising to the top of the bull riding standings in every category at the 103rd Annual National Western Stock Show Rodeo.

Kanin Asay, a two-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier from Powell leads the second round and over-all standings after two successful rides here last Saturday. Now there are two more bull riders from his home state that have the opportunity to overtake Asay’s lead.

Cameron Castleberry from Gillette is leading the first round after scoring a 90-point ride on a bull that also hails from Wyoming, Huskemaw owned by Burch Rodeo Company from Rosette. Right behind Castleberry is Clayton Savage from Casper, who had an 88-point effort on another Burch Bull, Magic Man.

Both Castleberry and Savage will ride their second bull here on Wednesday at the matinee performance. They will be hoping to make it to the eight-second mark and add enough points to qualify for Sunday’s finals.

Asay has a total of 175 points on two bulls. If Castleberry scores over 85-points he will be the number one bull rider in the standings here. Regardless, he and Savage have the opportunity to close the gap between Asay and Tater Hins from Huron, S.D., who is in second place with 168 points on two head.

The matinee performance of the rodeo starts in the Denver Coliseum at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The evening rodeo will follow at 7:30 p.m.
