Elshere’s Winning Ways Continue at National Western[Jan. 25, 2010] DENVER, Colo.--- J.J. Elshere couldn’t have been any happier with his performance at the 104th edition of the Ntational Western Stock Show Rodeo.
The Quinn, S.D., bronc rider was the high money winner at the 2010 rodeo after having won money in every round of competition. Elshere won the first round, tied for first in the second round and tied for fifth in the finals. When all of the total were added up, he had 242 points on three rides, ahead of fellow South Dakotan, Jeff Willert, who had 237 points. By Susan Kanode
Who’s Who of Team Roping Making Bid for Denver Finals[Jan. 23, 2010] DENVER, Colo. --- The finals of the National Western Stock Show Rodeo is starting to take shape and it looks like team roping will be very exciting.
At Friday’s matinee performance new teams moved into the four of the top five positions in the over-all standings. Leading the pack was Clay Tryan, the 2005 world champion heeler from Billings, Mont., and Travis Graves from Jay, Okla. This is a new partnership for 2010 that appears to be working well. They stopped the clock in 4.2 seconds to tie for the lead in the second round. They lead the over-all standings with a total of 9.8 seconds on two runs. By Susan Kanode
Brazile Makes Plans for National Western Finals[Jan. 20, 2010] DENVER, Colo. --- Trevor Brazile has taken the lead in the over-all standings in tie-down roping thanks in part to his performance at the National Western Stock Show Rodeo on Tuesday.
The Decatur, Texas, cowboy had a 7.4 second run on Monday, then came back and followed it up with an 8.1 at the Tuesday matinee. His Monday run leads the first round of competition. His Tuesday run is in sixth place in the second round. With nine more performances before the finals, he may not hold his positions in the rounds but is very likely to be among the top 12 who qualify for the finals on Jan. 24. Reigning World Champ Takes Lead at National Western[Jan. 18, 2010] DENVER, Colo. --- A near capacity crowd at the National Western Stock Show Rodeo got to see rodeo history on Monday afternoon.
Trevor Brazile, from Decatur, Texas, made history in 2009 when he won his seventh world championship in the all-around category in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Brazile is tied with Ty Murray for the most all-around titles in the association and surpassed Larry Mahan and Tom Ferguson with last year’s win. By Susan Kanode for National Western Stock Show
South Dakota Saddle Bronc Rider Takes Center Stage Again[Jan. 18, 2010] DENVER, Colo. --- J.J. Elshere from Quinn, S.D., is on a roll – one that started at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo last December in Las Vegas.
Elshere won over $81,000 there and finished the 2009 season in third place in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) world saddle bronc standings. He entered the National Western Stock Show Rodeo with just $660 in 2010 earnings but the way he is riding here, that is likely to change. By Susan Kanode for National Western Stock Show
Ferley Takes Saddle Bronc Riding Lead at National Western[Jan. 17, 2010] DENVER, Colo. --- Chad Ferley from Oelrichs, S.D., has accomplished much in his career as a saddle bronc rider in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA).
He has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo four times and accomplished the ultimate of winning a world championship. However, Ferley has never won a title at Denver or any of the big building rodeos. By Susan Kanode for National Western Stock Show
Reigning National Western Champs in Position for Repeat Titles[Jan. 16, 2010] DENVER, Colo. --- Three of the 2009 National Western Stock Show Rodeo champions made their first appearance at the Denver Coliseum on Friday.
Bradley Harter and Nancy Hunter were the most successful of the three. Harter from Weatherford, Texas, scored 80 points in saddle bronc riding. He and Andrew Counts from Stephenville, Texas are now tied for fourth place in the first round. By Susan Kanode for National Western Stock Show
World champions highlight Round 1 winners at 2009 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo[Dec. 4, 2009] LAS VEGAS -- It was a good night to be a world champion during Round 1 of the 2009 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
