Champions Crowned at San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo[Feb. 22, 2009] SAN ANTONIO - With a new format and a final performance that saw first place winners getting checks for $12,445 each, San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo competitors were going for broke.
Twelve contestants in bareback riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, team roping, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, and bull riding advanced to the Final performance in the AT&T Center on Saturday night. The top four in each event earned checks and that was added to their previous earnings to determine the champions. By Susan Kanode
Competition Heating Up at San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo[Feb. 21, 2009] SAN ANTONIO ---The Wild Card performance at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo was aptly named as contestants had one last chance to qualify for Saturday’s final round.
Fred Whitfield from Hockley, Texas, took advantage of an opportunity in tie-down roping. He stopped the clock in 7.9 seconds to win first place and $2,074. That gave him a total of $5,445 and he is now the second man in the race for the San Antonio championship. Whitfield has won this rodeo six times and hopes to make it a seventh. Cade Swor, from Chico, Texas, would like to keep Whitfield from doing that. Swor has earnings of $5,963. By Susan Kanode

Mote Scores High in Spite of Injured Foot[Feb. 14, 2009] SAN ANTONIO --- Prior to Friday night’s San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo performance, bareback rider Bobby Mote, spent his time in the Justin Sports Medicine Room with his foot immersed in ice.
