Mote Scores High in Spite of Injured Foot
[Feb. 14, 2009] SAN ANTONIO --- Prior to Friday night’s San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo performance, bareback rider Bobby Mote, spent his time in the Justin Sports Medicine Room with his foot immersed in ice.

At Thursday night’s rodeo, he injured it while competing, limped out of the arena and was examined by volunteer doctors at the rodeo. Mote had placed third in the first round of competition, was out of the money in the second and needed a good ride in the third to advance to the semi-finals. By Susan Kanode

Muncy Makes Bid for Second San Antonio Championship
[Feb. 13, 2009] SAN ANTONIO --- Taos Muncy has had more success at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo in his three years as a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) than most have in their career.

Muncy, from Corona, N.M., joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in 2007. That same year, he won the saddle bronc riding title at the AT&T Center, the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association championship and the PRCA’s world title. By Susan Kanode

Momentum Rolling for Contestants at San Antonio Rodeo
[Feb. 12, 2009] SAN ANTONIO --- There are several cowboys that are continuing their winning ways here after being successful at other rodeos.

Fort Worth champions Tyson Durfey and Turtle Powell and Travis Graves made their first appearance here and were atop the leader board. Durfey, a tie-down roper from Colbert, Wash., stopped the clock in 7.3 seconds to win $2,074. The two-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier has become known as quite a philanthropist. He always competes in a pink shirt to support the Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign and gives a percentage of his winnings to Susan G. Komen for the cure. He will be back here two more times before the semi-finals and hoping to increase his earnings as well as the amount he gives back. By Susan Kanode

Fennell Big Money Winner at San Antonio Rodeo
[Feb. 11, 2009] SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo is far from being over, but plenty of cowboys and cowgirls have already left with money in their pockets and plans of returning.

The second of five brackets was completed on Tuesday night when this group of contestants had their third round of competition. D.V. Fennell, from Neosha, Mo., was the big winner from the second bracket with earnings of $5,185. He will be back for the semi-finals. The bareback rider placed third in round one, then came back and won rounds two and three. At 35-years-old, Fennell is one of the older competitors in bareback riding. The event it widely thought of as the most physically demanding in rodeo because of the stress that it puts on contestants riding arms and upper body. By Susan Kanode

World Champion Bull Rider On a Roll
[Feb. 10, 2009] SAN ANTONIO --- The night after winning titles at the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo, J.W. Harris and J.J. Elshere set the standard at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo.

Elshere was smiling from ear to ear when he got off of the bucking horse named Hellbound from Big Bend Rodeo. He won over $10,000 in Fort Worth in saddle bronc riding with a total score of 332 points on four horses. Using the momentum that earned him that title on Sunday night, he scored an 85 to win the second round in the second bracket at the AT&T Center. By Susan Kanode

Champions Crowned at Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo
[Feb. 9, 2009] FORT WORTH ---The 113th annual Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo came to a close on Sunday night at the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum.

The big money winner is a big champion with a big heart. Jason Miller earned nearly $17,500 in the steer wrestling by dropping three steers to the turf in 11.3 seconds. Miller won the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world title in 2007. By Lauranne Smith

Wyoming Bull Riders Dominating at San Antonio Rodeo
[Feb. 9, 2009] SAN ANTONIO --- Last Thursday, Clayton Savage from Casper, Wyo., won over $23,000 at the Xtreme Bulls event at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo.

Savage will return to the AT&T Center on Wednesday to compete in the rodeo, but in the meantime his fellow Wyoming bull riders are having success. Kanin Asay who is a reserve world champion from Powell competed in the first bracket and was successful enough to advance to the semi-finals which will be held Feb. 18 and 19. Bobby Welsh, from Gillette won the first round in the second bracket and most likely will advance to the semi-finals as well. By Susan Kanode

[Feb. 8, 2009] FORT WORTH – The first round of bull riding and barrel racing along with the second round of bareback and saddle bronc riding events came to a close at the evening performance of the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo.

The big money winner was Cody Whitney in the bull riding. Whitney of Asher, Okla., rode Rafter G’s Big D for 89 points Saturday night and pocketed over $5,600 for the first place position. He will compete on his second bull at Sunday afternoon’s performance and is looking to get enough points to make it to the final round. By Lauranne Smith

Contestants Advance to Semi-Finals at San Antonio Rodeo
[Feb. 8, 2009] SAN ANTONIO --- The first two days of competition at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo are now history.

Twelve contestants in bareback riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, team roping, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing and bull riding were narrowed down to four by virtue of three rounds of competition. Money was paid in the individual rounds only, and the top four money earners advance to the semi finals.
This year’s rodeo features a new bracketed format where contestants get paid every night. Leading off the competition was Tilden Hooper, a bareback rider from Carthage, Texas. [Feb. 7, 2009] SAN ANTONIO - The first group of contestants at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo got off to a rousing start on Friday night.

This year’s rodeo features a new bracketed format where contestants get paid every night. Leading off the competition was Tilden Hooper, a bareback rider from Carthage, Texas. Hooper is coming off of his first qualification to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) and is hoping to make the trip back to Las Vegas next December for Rodeo’s championship event. Thursday 's Performances at Fort Worth Saw Big Names and Big Scores
[Feb. 6, 2009] FORT WORTH – It took 22 performances to change the second round leader in the bareback riding at the 2009 Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo.

Two-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo champion Bobby Mote proved the saying ‘better late than never’ is definitely true. The veteran cowboy from Culver, Ore., drew Western Rodeo’s horse Big Easy and according to Mote the bronc does not live up to his name. By Lauranne Smith

A Day of Honor, A Day of Change
[Feb. 5, 2009] FORT WORTH – It was a day of honoring and remembering active and retired military members at the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo.
