FORT WORTH – Friday night’s performance of the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo sent a few cowboys down the road a bit richer.
The first round of bareback and saddle bronc riding events came to a close at the evening’s performance. Two champions took the lead earlier and did not let go.
One of those was Kelly Timberman of Mills, Wyo. Who posted an 86-point bareback ride at Friday’s matinee performance . The 2004 world champion, took over first place with both his ability and the help of a great horse, Rodeo Spot from Carr Pro Rodeo. Timberman will be back Saturday, $2,500 richer from his win, to compete on his second and third horses.
Saddle Bronc rider Jesse Kruse, 2007 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rookie of the year and 2007 reserve college champ, took the lead in the first round during Tuesday’s matinee performance . The Great Falls, Mont., cowboy, aboard Sammy Andrews’ horse Precision, scored 87 points and was able to retain the lead throughout the week and net a check for $2,900. Kruse has competed on all three horses and is currently seated second overall.
Team ropers Chad Masters of Santo, Texas, and his partner Michael Jones of Stephenville, Texas, decided to take charge on Friday. They roped their first steer Friday afternoon in 5.0 seconds and came back that night catching their second steer in 5.5. This gave the team 10.5 on two and moved them into first-place spot overall.
Like mother like daughter; Jordon Peterson, daughter of four-time world champion barrel racer Kristi Peterson, made two 16-second runs to move into the lead in both the first round and the overall standings. Her two runs total 33.61seconds.
There are two performances at the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo presented by Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show on Friday. The 27th performance starts at 2 p.m. and the 28th begins at 7:30 p.m.
