FORT WORTH - While the overall standings are where the lion’s share of over $500,000 is going to be paid at the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo, there is still plenty of money available in individual rounds and contestants are going for it.

Jesse Kruse, from Great Falls, Mont., is the new leader in the first round of saddle bronc riding. He rode the Andrews Rodeo horse named Precision during the matinee on Tuesday for 87 points. Not only is he leading the round, he has the high-marked ride of the 113th Annual Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo.

Kruse came back in the evening performance with a 76-point ride. He would have to score a perfect 100 on Wednesday to take the over-all lead. However, his first concern is getting another solid ride and scoring high enough to keep him in the top 12 that will compete on Sunday night for the championship.

Stockton Graves and Jason Miller both had 3.4-second runs in steer wrestling to take the lead in the second round. Graves, from Newkirk, Okla., and Miller, from Lance Creek, Wyo., are two of those cowboys that are just looking for a pay check in the round. Neither one are currently in the top 12 to make the trip back here on Sunday.

Tuesday night’s rodeo saw Dean Gorsuch, a former world champion steer wrestler from Gering, Neb., move into both the round and over-all standings. Gorsuch had a 3.6 second run in the second round. He tied for first place in the first round and is now in fifth place overall with a total time of 8.4.

Team roping saw Travis Tryan and Cesar de la Cruz overtake Trevor Brazile and Patrick Smith with a total time of 11.9 seconds. Tryan is from Billings, Mont., and de la Cruz hails from Tucson, Ariz. With Tryan heading and de la Cruz heeling, they had a time of 6.2 during the matinee and 5.7 at the evening performance. Brazile, from Decatur, Texas, and Smith, from Midland, Texas, are now in second place with a total time of 12.1.

There are two performances at the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo presented by Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show on Wednesday. The 21st performance starts at 2 p.m. and the 22nd starts at 7:30 p.m.
