FORT WORTH --- In 2005, Josh Reynolds, from Corvallis, Mont., used the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo to get his season going and qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR).

Reynolds is a saddle bronc rider and is hoping to make the trip back to Las Vegas next December to compete at rodeo’s championship event again. He helped his cause significantly this week in the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum.

He was 78 and 80 points on his first two horses. In the third round, he scored 83 points on Rafter G Rodeo’s horse named Smoky. He is now tied for second in the over-all standings with Jesse Bail from Camp Crook, S.D. They each have 241 points. J.J. Elshere, from Quinn, S.D., is in command with 253 total points.

Twins from Stephenville, Texas, Jake and Jim Ross Cooper have made a name for themselves in team roping. The duo competed at the 2007 NFR together and are leading the team roping standings here. On Thursday, they made an appearance in their second event, tie-down roping.

While they didn’t have the success they had hoped for, they both completed their runs. Jake was the fastest with 11.1 seconds and Jim Ross was just behind him at 11.3.

The barrel racing saw several NFR qualifiers compete, but a College National Finals Rodeo qualifier beat them all. Courtney Sokol from College Station, Texas, had a 17.06-second run. That was the fastest time of the ninth performance and put her in third place of the first round. She will run again on Friday afternoon against Lisa Lockhart, Terra Bynum, and June Holeman who have all been to Las Vegas for the NFR. Bynum, from Sterling City, Texas, had the second fastest time of the night at 17.21 seconds. Holeman, from Arcadia, Neb., is a grandmother and rode a horse to grade school. Her time of 17.32 was the third fastest. Lockhart from Oelrichs, S.D., hit a barrel and got a five-second penalty, so she will be running at second round money only.

There are two performances at the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo presented by Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show on Friday. The 10th performance starts at 2 and the 11th at 7:30 p.m.
