FORT WORTH - The pre-rodeo competition at the Fort Worth Stock Show presented by the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show allowed the majority of steer wrestling and tie-down Rroping contestants compete in their first go-round Wednesday and Thursday morning.
This competition, known as slack, allows rodeos to accommodate all of the cowboys that want to participate.
All timed-event competitors here compete in two rounds while the rough stock competitors compete in three rounds that are back to back over the rodeo’s 30 performances. This allows the cowboys and cowgirls to keep their traveling expenses to a minimum and get down the road to other rodeos.
The rodeo will culminate with a final round, Feb. 8 where the top 12 contestants from each event will vie to be champions of the 113th World’s Original Indoor Rodeo. Throughout the rodeo more than $485,000 will be won and champion buckles given the top cowgirl and cowboy of each event.
Beginning Friday night, Jan. 22, at 7:30 p.m. cowboys from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and cowgirls from the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association be taking over the Will Rogers Coliseum trying to fill their pockets with cash and jump start the 2009 season.
