PUYALLUP, Wash. – Bareback rider Tom McFarland has been on a roll as of late and he continued his winning ways at the second Ariat Playoffs in Puyallup, Wash., on Saturday afternoon.

McFarland, of Wickenburg, Ariz., won the first Ariat Playoffs in Caldwell, Idaho, in August and things are looking good after the first round for the cowboy. McFarland spurred Calgary Stampede’s Hurricane Terry for 86 points to finish in a tie with Justin McDaniel of Porum, Okla., who spurred Calgary Stampede’s Knight Rocket for 86 points during the matinee performance on Friday.

“I have been drawing really well the last few weeks,” said McFarland of his recent winning streak. “I had never had that horse before (Hurricane Terry) but I was happy to have it as that was the one to have today. I hope I can just keep picking up checks.”

McFarland and McDaniel each picked up a check worth $2,172. McFarland will return to the arena Saturday night for his second round horse. Following the Saturday night performance the top eight in the average will advance to the semifinal round slated for Sunday afternoon.

Saddle bronc rider Dusty Hausauer spurred Calgary Stampede’s Hells Half Acre for 83 points to move to the top of the leaderboard for the first round in Puyallup. Hausauer, of Dickinson, N.D., picked up a check worth $3,099. Cody DeMoss and Jeff Willert finished in a tie for second with 81 point scores and won $1,937 each.

Bull rider Steve Woolsey found his groove on Western Rodeo’s Butcher Boy on Saturday afternoon. Woolsey, of Payson, Utah, posted 89 points to win the first round and a check totaling $3,099. Cody Buller, Kanin Asay and J.W. Harris tied for second with riders of 87 points.

Below are the complete results for the first round. Second round and average results will be sent out tonight following the performance.
