San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, Feb. 2-17 San Antonio, TX
Official final press release:
Million Dollar Rodeo Comes to a Close

SAN ANTONIO --- The first regular season rodeo to have more than $1 million in prize money came to a close on Saturday night.
Shawn Greenfield, from Lakeview, Ore., was the big money winner of the event with earning of $24,290 in steer wrestling. Greenfield placed in the first two rounds of competition, then set an arena record of 3.2 seconds in the third round en route to his title. His time of 4.5 seconds in the final round on Saturday night clinched the deal. He had a total time of 15.1 seconds on four runs.
Hazing for Greenfield was the 2005 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world champion Lee Graves from Calgary, Alberta. Graves not only kept the steer lined out, he also owned the team of horses that ran down the arena.
Greenfield was one of several steer wrestlers on Graves’ horse named Jesse. That horse was voted as the steer wrestling horse of the San Antonio Rodeo, earning Graves a $1,500 bonus from State Farm.
The capacity crowd at the AT&T Center of over 18,000 fans gave standing ovations to all of the event champions as they were taken around the arena in the back of a GMC truck. They also watched an animal athlete be recognized in each of the contests.
There were two bull riders that had qualified rides on all four of their bulls. At the top of the leader board was Cody Buller from Glendive, Mont., who had a total score of 322 points. This is the second time that Buller has won a San Antonio Rodeo Championship. The first was in 2004. That win helped him qualify for his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
Buller collected checks totaling $23,201 here. He has missed much of the last two years of competition due to injuries, but is healthy and riding well again. The money he won here will give him a leg up on a qualification to this rodeo’s championship event next December.
There was a tie in the saddle bronc riding. Cody Wright from Milford, Utah, and Taos Muncy from Cedarvale, N.M., each had 321 points on four rides. Muncy won more money that Wright because of his success in preliminary competition at $19,497. Wright had $16,662.
After winning the Xtreme Bulls competition at the matinee performance on Saturday, Luke Haught from Weatherford, came back and rode one more at the finals. He also rode four bulls at the rodeo and finished second. He had 296 points on four to win $14,872.
Speed Williams from De Leon, Texas, has eight gold buckles to his credit for his success as a team roping header. Previous to this year, he had never won a San Antonio buckle. He changed that on Saturday night with his team roping heeler, Dean Tuftin, from Prineville, Ore.
On Friday night, Williams had met a marine that was injured in Iraq. He gave his rope to him that night and after winning his first championship here, turned around and gave his buckle to the marine. He and Tuftin had a total time of 21.7 seconds on four runs and earned $13,445.
While the rodeo is over, the stock show will continue for one more day on Sunday.
