Lowe wins in Montgomery.
For the second weekend in a row, three-time World Champion Bareback Rider Will Lowe claimed a winner’s check, this time at the Southeastern Exposition Livestock Show in Montgomery, Ala. Lowe, of Canyon, Texas, scored 83 points on Stace Smith Pro Rodeos’ Black Mesa and collected a check worth $2,451.
Last week, Lowe won the title in Glen Rose, Texas.
Other champions in Montgomery were: steer wrestler Ross Lowry of Summerville, Ga., 8.6 seconds on two head, $2,037; team ropers Miles Kobold of Big Horn, Wyo./Brandon Bates of Escondido, Calif., 11.8 seconds on two head, $1,597 each; saddle bronc rider Josh Reynolds of Corvallis, Mont., 84 points on Korkow Rodeo’s Lights Out, $2,651; tie-down ropers Steven Catalani of San Antonio, Texas, and Jerrad Hofstetter of Portales, N.M., 18.2 seconds on two head, $2,410 each; bull rider Trent Cormier of Houma, La., 87 points on Smith, Harper and Morgan’s Bullet Proof, $7,058; and barrel racer Brenda Mays of Terrebonne, Ore., 15.59 seconds, $2,223.
Green reclaims Timed Event title.
Daniel Green of Oakdale, Calif., reclaimed his title of rodeo “Ironman” and broke the arena record in the process as he won the 24th annual Wrangler Timed Event Championship, March 7-9 at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Okla.
Green posted a total time of 276.1 seconds on 25 head in all five timed events to win his second Timed Event title and checks worth $57,000.
Trevor Brazile, who won his record fifth Guthrie title last year, finished second and, along the way, set the event’s record for fastest round (44.6 seconds) and earned $41,000, pushing his career event earnings to more than $500,000.
The Wrangler Timed Event Championship was developed in 1985 to determine the best all-around timed-event cowboy in the world – someone who could shine in not only his specialty, but in all five timed events.
Houston attendance record broken. The RodeoHouston performance on March 9, featuring Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus in concert, was witnessed by 73,459 fans, breaking the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s all-time paid rodeo attendance record.
It broke the previous record of 73,291, set in 2007 with a performance by Cyrus as Hannah Montana and the Cheetah Girls.
