Second generation champion Kaycee Feild claims College National Finals Rodeo bareback title
Kaycee Feild, the son of ProRodeo Hall of Fame inductee Lewis Feild, had an 84.5 point ride on Vold Rodeo’s Hypnotic to win the final round and dominate the overall standings at the June 15-21 College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo.
He won the national championship with 325 points for the Utah Valley State College team coached by his dad. Feild finished 19.5 points ahead of the man in second place, Matt Smith from the University of Tennessee-Martin after winning three of four rounds.
In the tie-down roping, New Mexico State freshman Johnny Salvo left the arena with the fastest total time of 41.6 seconds on four head. Salvo’s run of 9.5 seconds put him second in the Finals behind Wyoming's Jake Pratt, who stopped the clock in 9.3 seconds. Pratt finished second overall with 43.8 seconds.
New Mexico State teammate Wyatt Althoff, a tie-down roper and team roper, won the men's all-around championship with 290 points, beating Wes Lockard from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas by 50 points. There was a tie for the women’s all-around championship with newlywed Arena (Robertson) de la Cruz from Weatherford College and Jordan Crossley from Walla Walla Community College each finishing with 260 points
Crossley competed in barrel racing and breakaway roping and de la Cruz qualified in break away roping and team roping, as a header. Paired with Tyrel Flewelling of Eastern New Mexico, de la Cruz won the Finals, beating all of the all-male teams, and finished second in the four-head average. She was married to Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier Cesar de la Cruz on May 24.
The men’s team championship went to Walla Walla Community College. Their total of 740 points earned them $14,000 in scholarships from U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company. The women’s team champions were the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Rebels. They earned $7,000 in scholarships.
