Tuf Cooper Looking for First Reno Rodeo Championship

RENO, Nev.—June 23, 2010 –Tuf Cooper is only 20 years old, but has been to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR) twice, won over $350,000 and is one of the youngest and most successful tie-down ropers on the circuit.


The Decatur, Texas resident took the lead in the first round of competition at the Reno Rodeo just prior to the sixth performance with a blazing fast 8.7 second run. He came back during the performance and roped and tied his second calf in 10.2 seconds. His total of 18.9 seconds has him currently sitting in third place in the over-all standings and he is including the Reno Rodeo in his schedule on Saturday night.
The top 12 contestants in each event will be competing for over $400,000 in prize money and the prestigious championship spurs that go along with being Reno Rodeo’s best. Other contestants that moved into the top of the standings on Wednesday night are Wade Sundell and D.V. Fennell. Both of these men qualified for their first WNFR last year.


Fennell is a bareback rider from Neosho, Mo. He rode the horse named Cow Camp for 83 points to tie with Elko, Nevada’s Paul Jones who rode Y-10. Both horses came from Growney Brothers. Their 83-point efforts are leading the second round. Fennell had an 78 here on Tuesday and has a total of 161. He is in second place in the over-all standings.


Sundell also had an 83-point ride on a Growney horse. His success came in saddle bronc riding. He also moved into second place over-all with a total of 161 points on two head.


There are just two performances left here before Saturday night’s finals. The seventh performance of the “Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West” begins at 7 p.m. Thursday.
