RENO, Nev.—June 24, 2010 – Dusty LaValley and Heith DeMoss are the first rough stock riders to get checks at the Reno Rodeo.
The first round was complete in bareback riding and saddle bronc riding was completed here on Thursday night. LaValley, from Bezanson, Alberta, rode Flying Five Rodeo’s Wind Chimes for 83 points to win the round in bareback. He got a check for $3,429 and because he had a 79 in the second round, he also leads over-all and will have a chance to ride for the championship here on Saturday night.
DeMoss had an outstanding 85-point effort on Rosser Rodeo’s Flood Light. This earned the Heflin, La., saddle bronc rider $3,203. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it to the eight-second whistle in the second round, so this is the only check that he will get here.
Both of these men competed here earlier in the week. There were two very successful saddle bronc riders here on Thursday. Bradley Harter from Weatherford, Texas, and Tyler Correington from Hastings, Minn., each had 83 point efforts to tie for third in the round. Both of these men have their second round horses on Friday night and are good candidates to compete in Saturday night’s finals.
