Billings, MT (December 16, 2008) – The rodeo season always has its ups and downs, but for PRCA team roper Turtle Powell, the season ended on a high note.
Powell earned his spot into the 2008 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo at the final stop of the season, the Ariat Playoff Tour Finale in Dallas, TX. Powell was on the bubble to qualify for one of the fifteen spots allowed to compete at the WNFR in Las Vegas, but earning enough at the Dallas event confirmed his place.
Powell placed in four of the ten rounds at the WNFR and finished 2nd in the average earning him over $46,000.00. With those earnings Turtle moved up and finished the 2008 season in the 10th place in the world standings.
The week prior to the WNFR during practice, Powell injured his groin that posed the question if he would be well enough to compete. With the consultation of multiple physicians and an intense regimen of physical therapy he made the decision to go ahead and rope at the finals. A decision he’s glad he made.
“You have to be on your game for 10 days. We work all year to get to the Finals and I just had to push through it,” says Powell. “Obviously, I wasn’t at 100%, but we had a good finals and I’m ready to go for 09.”
This was Powell’s fourth time to the WNFR since joining the PRCA in 1995.
