CALDWELL, Idaho --- Trevor Brazile and Clint Cannon both helped solidify their number one positions in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world standings on Saturday night.

Cannon, from Waller, Texas, won the bareback riding championship and$6,616 with a total score of 172 points on two rides. He also placed second in the final round behind his traveling partner Heath Ford from Greeley, Colo. Ford rode the Calgary Stampede horse, Coconut Roll for 87 points and thought it was a great way to celebrate his birthday. He turned 32 on Saturday. He then took the victory lap in front of the sold-out crowd.

“That’s something I’ll want to tell my grandkids about,” he said. “It’s not every day you get on a great bucking horse and win the round. Doing that on my birthday was really special.”

Cannon rode the Powder River Rodeo horse Big Show for 86 points. Cannon’s win will certainly help him in his quest for his first world championship, but he is not slowing down until he achieves that goal.

“I’m not going to be comfortable until that gold buckle is on my belt,” he said. “That’s the ultimate goal I’m shooting for. This is a good rodeo to win and it all helps.”

Trevor Brazile is in the lead of the tie-down roping and all-around standings. He won the tie-down roping here for the second consecutive year and also earned money in team roping to increase his lead in the all-around. Brazile roped and tied three calves in 25.5 seconds to be the high-money earner of the rodeo with $7,834. He and team roping partner Patrick Smith, from Midland, Texas, tied for first in the second round of team roping for another $1,715 making Brazile’s total take $9,549.

“If the fans here don’t make you try harder, nothing will,” Brazile said. “I love it. They’re fun to compete in front of, and the victory laps are something else. You can go to a rodeo with twice as many people in attendance and they never get as loud as the fans do here.”

Billy Etbauer is staying on the winning streak that he started at Cheyenne Frontier Days in July. He tied for the arena record in the final round with an 89-point effort on the Calgary Stampede Horse named Knife Rocket. The record had been held since 1999 by Kevin Small.

“What a horse,” Etbauer said of his ride. “It’s always fun when you get to get on an outstanding animal like that. I’m really blessed. To stay healthy, keep riding and enjoying it is great.”

Etbauer who is originally from South Dakota but now makes his home in Edmond, Okla., had a total score of 173 points. He added nearly $5,000 to his earnings and is solidifying his qualification for his 21st Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

Total pay-off at the 75th annual Caldwell Night Rodeo was $254,668.
