St. Louis, Missouri was the host state of the twelfth stop on the tour, the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Invitational. At the end of four rounds it was jokester Wiley Petersen who took home the gold quipping, “I’m never going to wash these jeans again!” But as is always the case, he had to work for his prize.

Round one was captured by the leader in the BFTS World Standings, J.B. Mauney. He covered the Circle T Ranch & Rodeo bull, Ft. Worth, for an 88.75 score. In his first event on the tour, 22-year-old Jimmy Tubbs was second. He rode another Circle T bull, Outa Da Blue to an even 88. Third was Rookie of the Year candidate Skeeter Kingsolver. He was 87 points on Montego Bay, owned by Chad Berger/Clay Struve/ Julie Rosen. The eventual winner Petersen was fourth after riding Smokey to an 86.5. Robinson/Broken N-N/Jeffery Scott/Larry owns Smokey the Cable Guy/Gary Blythe.
The personable Renato Nunes won the second round. He was 88.5 on Optimist Prime, owned by Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls. Australian Pete Farley was second with an 88.25 after riding Far West. Martinez Bucking Bulls, LLC owns that bull. Last years’ World Champion Guilherme Marchi was third. He scored an 88 on Lil’ Wicked, owned by Chad Berger/Clay Struve. Rounding out the top four was Cody Ford. He rode Circle T’s Black Jack to an 87.75 score.
The third round of this Invitational went to Bryan Richardson. He was given an 89 on Circle T Ranch & Rodeo’s Frosty. Second and third was split between Cord McCoy and Ford, both with a score of 87.75.It was great to see the smiling McCoy back after an injury. He covered Hebert Bucking Bulls’ Shane, and Ford rode Husker’s Terror, owned by Chad Berger/Jim Quintaine. Fourth was grabbed by Valdiron de Oliveira. He scored an 87 on a bull we had seen earlier, Smokey from Circle T.
Only five men were able to cover their bulls in the Championship Round. Leading the pack was Kody Lostroh, who scored the only 90+ ride of the night. He was given a 90.5 on another Circle T bull we had already seen, Ft. Worth. Second and third was shared between Zack Brown and Ford with scores of 89.5. Brown rode the Chad Berger/Denny Hawks bull, Scaredy Cat, and Ford covered Pinball Wizard, owned by Jeff Robinson/Bar None Bucking Bulls. Petersen was fourth on Pearl Snap, with a score of 88.75. Pearl Snap is owned by Boyd/Floyd Bull Company.
The event standings saw Petersen on top, with Lostroh only one-half point behind in second. Brown was third, Ford fourth, and Ross Coleman in fifth.
The Salem NationaLease Bull of the Event was the consistent and tough Chicken on a Chain, owned by Robinson/Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy/Broken N-N. Chicken was awarded a score of 46.25, and bucked off Robson Palermo on the way.
There were also a few injuries to report. Chris Shivers and Brian Canter are both out next week with the same injury; a strained left groin. Tubbs went to the emergency room for X-rays after injuring his neck. At this point there is nothing new to report on Jimmy. I wish all these men a speedy recovery.
The list of bull stars is down by one after Tom Teague lost his good bull, Cut Loose, also known as I’m A Crook. It is not yet known what caused the problems this bull demonstrated, but ultimately the bull had to be euthanized. Condolences to Teague on the loss of this first-class bull.
I don’t think I mentioned the five men that were cut after the eleventh event of the tour. (The men got an extra event, since there were two events in one weekend.) L.J. Jenkins, Kolt Donaldson, Clayton Williams, Leonil Santos, and 2002 World Champion Ednei Caminhas were the ones that had to leave the tour. Those that are in are McKennon Wimberly, Nick Landreneau, Pete Farley, Jock Connelly, and Michael Manes.
On lighter notes, congratulations to Paulo and Maria Crimber on the birth of their second child, a daughter this time. Helena now joins brother Joao in the Crimber household.
I don’t know how many of you watched the new Enterprise commercial with Flint Rasmussen. It involves the Enterprise cowboys, Flint, and a truck and trailer. A pretty clever little ad, I thought, and I hope they don’t limit it to the Enterprise event. This could be a neat ad campaign for a while. If you taped the show, check it out – pretty cute.
And I just have to mention again how enjoyable I find the banter between J.W. Hart and Justin McBride. A lot of people don’t find them very funny, but I think they are quite entertaining, as well as informative. Keep on with the “Double J’s”!
Finally, as far as the World Standings is concerned, after leading for quite some time, Mauney got caught and passed up by Lostroh. Kody is on such a roll right now, and is so full of confidence that he might really be tough to knock off the top. J.B. dropped to second, Austin Meier is third, Petersen fourth, Brown fifth, Marchi sixth, Ryan Dirteater, in a bit of a slump now, is seventh, Palermo eighth, Ford ninth, and Nunes rounds out the top ten.
Now on to Kansas City!
