DENVER, Colo.- Colorado bull riding fans couldn’t have been any happier at the second performance of the Denver Chute-Out.
They got to see two of their own go to the top of the leader board in hopes of keeping the championship in the state. Josh Koschel from Greeley, won the first round of competition with an 89-point effort on a bull owned by Dillon and H.D. Page. The ride was worth $4,898.
Koschel’s traveling partner and friend Kody Lostroh had ridden earlier and gotten the option of a re-ride. He then came back and rode Encore, a bull owned by Bubba Radke, for 88 points. This earned Lostroh a second place finish in the round and $3,674.
“I’ve been to this bull riding four times and this is the first time I’ve won a round,” Koschel said. “It was cool to have the crowd behind us like that. I had a lot of family and friends here and that made it exciting.”
Koschel and Lostroh have known each other since they were children. They competed in high school rodeos together and are now both on the Professional Bull Rider’s Built Ford Tough Tour. Lostroh is in first place in the Built Ford Tough Series standing and Koschel is in 16th.
They both will compete in the second round Wednesday night and will hope to be among the top 15 to advance to the final round. The National Western has a good opportunity to put the championship buckle on a Colorado cowboy.
The Wednesday performance of the Denver Chute-Out, will begin at 7:30 p.m.
