GLENDALE, Ariz. (August 2, 2008) - The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) set the Jobing.com Arena crowd on fire as the PBR’s Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS) bucked into Glendale, Ariz., for stop number 25 on the prestigious tour. Fans were treated to the world’s top 45 bull riders all competing for the BFTS tour’s $1 million dollar World Championship title.

In the end, 2007 Daisy Rookie of the Year Clayton Williams (Carthage, Texas) brought the crowd to their feet as he took his first ever Built Ford Tough Series event win in his short, but lucrative career. Williams rode all three of his bulls, including a previously unridden bull, for a total of 251.25 points and added $28,100 to his bank account.

“This is my first BFTS win ever and it feels great,” Williams commented. “I’ve been trying to get this win forever and I finally got it accomplished. Hopefully, this was the icebreaker and I can continue like this for the rest of the year.”

In round one, Williams rode the bull, Scary Deal, owned by Diamond S Bucking Bulls, for 81.5 points. He added 80.75 points to his point total after he took on Buck Nasty (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo) and headed into the Built Ford Tough Championship Round in sixth place on two bulls. For his final bull, Williams drew Hales/Hicks & McKracken’s prize bull, King Solomon, a bull who has never been conquered in eight outs. He tamed the unridden bull for 89 points and was the only man to cover all three of his bulls over the weekend.

“I got on that bull earlier this year and it didn’t go well,” Williams said. “In Albuquerque, I kind of got rocked back on my pockets, which is a bad place to be so this time I went into it a little differently. This bull had his horns painted blue tonight and I kind of got right up there in between them. If I ever draw him again, I plan on doing the same thing.”

As the winner of the Glendale event, Williams automatically became the first participant in the next Zantrex-3 Insta-Shot Grudge Match in Nashville, Tenn. He was able to pick his opponent from a list of elite bull riders that included previous World Champions, riders in the Top 10 BFTS standings, and 2008 BFTS event champions. Williams chose good friend, L.J. Jenkins (Texico, N.M.) who is currently sitting number six in the World Standings, for the next Grudge Match.

“I picked L.J. because he’s a good buddy of mine. If for some reason I fall off, I would want him to win the money over anyone else,” Williams commented about his choice.

Taking second place overall in Glendale was New Mexico young gun L.J. Jenkins (Texico, N.M.) who covered two bulls and finished with 177 points and pocketed $17,692. Jenkins also received the high score of the event with a 90.25 point ride on Southern Gangster, owned by Pete Baker/Homestead Genetics. Third place went to 2002 PBR World Champion Ednei Caminhas (P. Alves, SP, Brazil) who won $10,788 after he rode two of three bulls for 175.75 points. Round two winner Colby Yates (Fort Worth, Texas) finished in fourth place overall with 173.75 points and added $8,130 to his 2008 earnings.

The race for PBR’s million dollar world title takes the top 45 bull riders in the world to Nashville, Tenn., on August 29-30 for the Jack Daniel’s Invitational. The VERSUS network airs PBR events every Saturday and Sunday evening. Be sure to check www.pbrnow.com for upcoming cities, ticket information, and complete broadcast times.

BEHIND THE CHUTES:

Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s “Ride with the Best” Bonus:

As the winner of round two at the Montana Tractors Invitational in Edmonton, Alberta, Pistol Robinson (Burleson, Texas) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during round one of the Built Ford Tough Invitational presented by Cooper Tires. Robinson rode his bull, Gunslinger (Casper Baca Rodeo Co.) for 83.5 points and added $5,000 to his bank account.

As the round one winner of the Built Ford Tough Invitational presented by Cooper Tires, Mike Lee (Decatur, Texas) qualified to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during the second round of competition in Glendale. Lee was bucked off the bull, Super Beast; therefore, his owner, Circle T Ranch & Rodeo, was awarded the $5,000 check.

As the winner of round two, Team Enterprise rider Colby Yates (Fort Worth, Texas) will be eligible for the bonus at the 26th BFTS stop in Nashville, Tenn.

Ford Truck Moment of Truth Bonus:

Colby Yates (Fort Worth, Texas) was in the lead going into the Built Ford Tough Championship Round and ultimately did not win the Built Ford Tough Invitational presented by Cooper Tires. As the $5,000 bonus was not claimed, it will increase to $10,000 at the Jack Daniel’s Invitational in Nashville, Tenn., on August 29-30. The bonus grows by $5,000 each week if it is not claimed. Once claimed, it returns to $5,000.

Ford Super Duty Challenge:

As the Built Ford Tough Invitational presented by Cooper Tires event winner, Clayton Williams (Carthage, Texas) has qualified for a chance to compete at the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, against all other 2008 Built Ford Tough Series event winners, for $50,000 toward the purchase of a 2009 Ford Super Duty Truck. The Ford Super Duty Challenge contestant who finishes the highest in the event aggregate during the 2008 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals will win the Ford Super Duty Challenge.

Salem NationaLease Bull of the Event:

Gnash (Rafter 7R Bucking Bulls) earned Bull of the Event honors with a score of 46 points in Glendale. This honor is acknowledged by an award of $1,250 going to the top bull of each event as determined by the PBR judges’ bull score.

Cabela’s World’s Foremost Ride:

L.J. Jenkins (Texico, N.M.) recorded the highest marked ride of the event when he scored 90.25 points on Southern Gangster (Pete Baker/Homestead Genetics) during the Built Ford Tough Championship Round of the Built Ford Tough Invitational presented by Cooper Tires. Consequently, he earned a $1,000 bonus.

The rider who achieves the highest score at each BFTS regular season event, excluding the PBR World Finals receives a bonus of $1,000 for the accomplishment. The PBR athlete who achieves the highest marked qualifying ride during the entire 2008 BFTS regular season, excluding the PBR World Finals event will receive $25,000, while second and third place finishers will be awarded $10,000 and $5,000, respectively. The bull rider who achieves the highest marked ride through the course of the entire 2008 PBR BFTS World Finals will earn an additional $10,000.

Zantrex-3 Insta-Shot Grudge Match:

The Zantrex-3 Insta-Shot Grudge Match showcased world number one bull rider Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil) going head to head with the rider of his choice, 2002 PBR World Champion Ednei Caminhas (P. Alves, SP, Brazil). Both riders bucked off with Marchi attempting King Solomon (Hale/Hicks & McCracken) and Caminhas on Avalanche (Diamond S/ExclusiveGenetics.com); therefore, neither claimed the $5,000 in prize money.

As the winner of the Built Ford Tough Invitational presented by Cooper Tires, Clayton Williams (Carthage, Texas) chose L.J. Jenkins (Texico, N.M.) as his opponent for the Grudge Match in Nashville, Tenn., on Friday, August 29.
