Oregon’s Cody Ford proved he came to play in Nashville, Tennessee when he won stop number 25 on the Built Ford Tough Series tour, the Jack Daniels Invitational. On his way to that victory, Ford won round one, placed fifth in round two, and got a piece of the pie in the short-go, giving Cody a total of 263.75 points to grab that win.

Ford was on top after the first round with a score of 88.5 on Booger Butt, owned by Jeff Robinson/Mike Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy/Bar None. Zack Brown was second with an 87.75 on Buffalo Hump, a bull owned by Hebert Bucking Bulls/Barry and Aliceson Bales. Third and fourth was split between Valdiron de Oliveira and Sean Willingham with scores of 87.25. Valdiron rode the Frontier Rodeo Company bull Alligator Chomp and Sean covered another Frontier bull, Fire & Flame. Fifth went to Ryan McConnel. He received an 87 on Desperado, who is hauled by Boyd/Floyd Bull Company.
The reigning World Champion, Guilherme Marchi, won the second round. He scored an 89.25 on The Game, owned by Brandon Gasper Bucking Bulls. Chris Shivers was second with an 88.75 on the Lufkin Ranch & Rodeo bull, Skyhawk. A new face from Brazil, Edivaldo Ferreira, was third after he rode Carolina Cat to an 87.5. Walton & Wagoner own Carolina Cat. Fourth went to the current leader Kody Lostroh. He scored an 87.25 on the consistent Fire & Flame. Ford was fifth with an 86.5 on another bull who took his rider to the pay winder the previous round, Buffalo Hump.
The Championship Round was a great one. Interestingly, there were only nine qualifying rides in the second round, and as tough as the bulls were in the short-go, there were eight qualifying rides in that round. The cowboys really stepped up to the plate and rode double-tough when they had to face this great pen of bulls that Cody Lambert hand picked for Nashville.
The cowboy that spurred his way to victory in that Championship Round was Brown. He chose the great Jeff Robinson/Mike Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy/Bar None bull Chicken on a Chain and rode him to a big 92 points for the win This was the fifth time Zack has scored 90 points this year. Shivers was right behind with a score of 91.75. He covered Deja Blu, owned by Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC. Third was Willingham, who rode the D&H Cattle Co. bull Hot Stuff to a 91.5. Great to see Ednei Caminhas make a great ride, and he scored a 90.5 on Tahonto’s Shadow to be fourth. Shadow is owned by 4C’s/Sills/Vaughn. Fifth went to J.B. Mauney. He rode Skyhawk Cut-A-Rug, owned by Jeff Robinson/Bar None/McNeely/Broken N-N/Kenny Jack to a 90.25. This was Mauney’s seventh 90-point ride of the season.
There were two bulls that tied for the honor of the Salem NationaLease Bull of the Event with scores of 46.75. Those two stars were Bones, last years’ Bucking Bull of the Year, owned by Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC. and Voodoo Child, owned by Jeff Robinson/Beutler/Bar None/HylandMcNeely/Broken N-N.
The only real injury was de Oliveira, when he suffered a concussion in the Championship round. He is slated to go to the World Cup, and is probable for that trip. It was obvious that he did not know what happened, and he really had fellow Brazilian and three-time PBR World Champion Adriano Moraes cracking up with his comments. I wish we could have understood them, but I’m really glad that he is all right.
And keeping in that area, Matt Bohon, who had a serious wreck in San Antonio on August 2nd, is planning to return at the Reno event in mid-September. He looked and sounded great, and will just wait for the OK from Dr. Tandy Freeman, but that is the time frame he has set for himself. What great news that is!
The overall event standings had Ford as the winner with Marchi second, Lostroh third, Shivers fourth, and Brown fifth.
We had a change near the top of the leader board with regard to the BFTS standings. Lostroh is still in the lead, but Marchi is once again ahead of Mauney, who dropped from second to third. Fourth is Brown, de Oliveira fifth, Robson Palermo sixth, McConnel seventh, Shivers eighth, Wiley Petersen ninth, and Renato Nunes is tenth.
It is time to start referring to the events as how many are left rather than ‘the 25th stop’ with regard to the tour. There are now only six events left before the Finals. The next one will be September 11th thru the 13th in Reno, Nevada.
Between now and then will be the PBR World Cup in Barretos, Brazil. These are the teams, with the latest information that I have. I apologize if I am incorrect.
