PUEBLO, Colo. (June 22, 2010) - Two of the most famous cowboys of all time will be together on television through the Fourth of July weekend.

Ty Murray and his wife Jewel are hosting the John Wayne All-American Weekend on AMC beginning Friday, July 2, and continuing through Sunday, July 4. Murray, known as the King of the Cowboys, said that he and Jewel filmed their hosting spots yesterday in an outdoor setting in Boise, Idaho.

Producers of the American Movie Classics marathon asked the couple to talk about everything from what it means to be an American to what John Wayne stands for.

They also read liners introducing Wayne’s various movies, including “Rio Bravo,” “McLintock!” and “North to Alaska.”

Murray said that being asked to host the television special is a result of the PBR “making progress,” and that his appearance on the CBS hit series “Dancing with the Stars” continues to pay “incalculable dividends.”

“It’s brick-by-brick, and as you put more in place you have more bricks to grab from,” said Murray about promoting the PBR. “It’s another brick that puts you in the American psyche.”

NEWS and NOTES

John Wayne Grit Award: This year the PBR is introducing the John Wayne Grit Award, presented by Wayne Enterprises. The award will honor the Built Ford Tough Series rider in first place going into the World Finals. The award honors many of the qualities that the PBR cowboy stands for, including integrity, strength and toughness.

During the last five events of the regular season, the Top 10 riders will have the opportunity to compete for additional points in a bonus round following the regularly scheduled first round of each event. The rider with the highest total of BFTS points at the end of that Final Five Chase will be the John Wayne Grit Award winner.
