New York (January 11, 2011) - Flint Rasmussen will never live this one down. Announcers Clint Adkins and Brandon Bates won’t let him.
Rasmussen, PBR’s entertainer extraordinaire, appeared in a pair of jeggins briefly Saturday night during the Madison Square Garden Invitational. For those unclear about jeggins, ask a 12-year-old girl.
Don’t have one of those around? OK, they’re a skin-tight combination of jeans and leggings. Someone like Beyonce looks very good in them. Rasmussen, not so much.
The former school teacher from Montana made the mistake of pulling up his new Cooper Tires shirt and revealing his, shall we say backside, that left little to the imagination. After VERSUS TV cameras caught this, the director froze it and showed it over and over, even on Sunday.
So whenever Adkins and Bates get tired of being the, er, butt of Rasmussen’s barbs, all they have to do is request the soon-to-be infamous shot of perhaps the most famous derriere in PBR history. The Flint man needs to stick to shorts.
When they were playing nice, Adkins did give Rasmussen a new nickname to go along with his new uniform – Commander Cooper. That sounds like a nice promotion from Captain Enterprise. What didn’t change was the Commander’s ability to tap into the vibe of the fans and provide hilarious and at times touching moments during breaks in the action.
There was the guy who had the plastic bull costume on his head and torso that broke everyone up when Rasmussen asked him his name. “Buddy the Bull” was a classic.
“They’ve got access to everything in New York City, and that guy was savvy enough – he knew he’d get attention,” Rasmussen said. “The crowds in New York, it’s more about having their own kind of party going on. … We just need to somehow get invited to their party, and then they get in on ours.”
Sabrina Rothermel of Orange County, N.Y., caught the PBR funny man’s attention with a sign never before seen in the Western World: “Black Women Love Flint.” He took a photo of the sign adorned with the Christmas lights and pink hearts and autographed it for his Sunday “Cooper Tires Fan of the Night.”
The sweetest part of the afternoon was when Rasmussen picked up and hugged his “Wrangler Best Dressed Fan of the Night,” an adorable little boy who was dressed cowboy from head to toe. He received a couple gift cards courtesy of Wrangler.
“There aren’t too many people dressed like cowboys in New York,” Rasmussen said.
So what happened to the jeggins? Rasmussen put in them in a drawer with some sound equipment.
“They’re officially on tour,” he said. “I’m not going to say I’m going to wear them again, but they were kind of comfy.”
