MARS HILL, N.C. (August 4, 2010) - Stock contractor Jeff Robinson confirmed today that he has purchased Uncle Buck from Tom Teague.
When asked if a deal had been reached, he said, “That’s the word on the street.”
“[Uncle Buck] is not at my house,” Robinson said. “He’s at Tom’s, but we should have everything wrapped up by Nashville (Tenn.). We had a little insurance deal to work out on him. A good friend of mine, Mike Cappello, and I tried to put a deal together and we got it done.
“He’ll be in Nashville. He’ll make his debut in Nashville with us.”
Uncle Buck is a World Champion Bull contender for the second consecutive season, and has only been ridden twice in 33 outs on the Built Ford Tough Series.
Guilherme Marchi scored 90.75 points on the bull in New York in January of 2009, and Valdiron de Oliveira rode him in Baltimore last January. Since then, Uncle Buck has bucked off seven other riders, including Mike Leefour times. Ross Coleman has twice come up short of the whistle, and Aaron Roy was dusted once.
“I think he’s a Top 5 bull,” Robinson said. “He was last year, and I think he is this year. Other than Bushwhacker – and I’m not even sure you could buy Bushwhacker – we have Voodoo Child, Chicken on a Chain and Major Payne. I thought he was the next best one. I didn’t think we could buy him, but we asked and Tom made a pitch and we came together on it.”
“We’re always trying to add,” Robinson said. “Finding a bull like Uncle Buck is pretty hard to do. I think he could be a once-in-a-lifetime bull if everything fell the right way.
“That was one thing, we never thought Tom would part with him, or we would have asked sooner.”
Robinson, a North Carolina native like Teague, hauled Chicken on a Chain in 2007 when he was named World Champion Bull. He has never been voted Stock Contractor of the Year in the PBR, but is considered to be the frontrunner for this year’s honor.
In recent weeks, Robinson has also partnered with Mike and Cherie Cappello to purchase Real Moody from H.D. Page, and Buffalo Hump from Cody Hebert.
“It’ll be exciting,” said Robinson about the depth and quality of his bull pen. “Now we put together six or seven bulls that were in the short round at the PBR Finals last year, so we’re pretty happy.”
