New York, NY (October 13, 2010) - The Professional Bull Riders are bringing the bulls to Broadway when they take over New York City’s Times Square this Friday, Oct. 15, at 1:00 p.m. ET, for a special one-time-only free event – the Built Ford Tough Road to Las Vegas presented by Cooper Tires. The Top 10 bull riders in the world will take on the fiercest bucking bulls outdoors in the heart of Gotham, rain or shine. The event will be broadcast nationally following NFL coverage on CBS on Sunday, Oct. 17, from 3-4 p.m. ET or 5-6 p.m. ET (Please check local listings for times).
In this special prelude to the 2010 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, riders will be competing for bonus points in a final push to outrank their competition in the Built Ford Tough Series world standings. The PBR will then head to Las Vegas for the 2010 PBR World Finals (Oct. 20-24), where the coveted PBR Championship Buckle and a $1 million bonus are up for grabs at the single richest bull riding event in the world.
All of the bulls for the Built Ford Tough Road to Las Vegas presented by Cooper Tires will be provided by stock contractor Jeff Robinson.
The 2010 PBR season was the sport’s most competitive ever, with the 30 Built Ford Tough Series events producing 21 different winners. Top-ranked Austin Meier of Kinta, Okla., finished with the most wins with five, while third-ranked Renato Nunes of Buritama, Brazil, and leading Rookie of the Year candidate Silvano Alves of Pilar, Brazil, each had three. Second-ranked J.B. Mauney of Mooresville, N.C., and fourth-ranked Valdiron de Oliveira of Aparecida de Goiania, Brazil, each had two wins.
The 2010 standings lead changed 11 times, and six different riders have swapped places at the top. Meier and Mauney were each ranked first three different times, while Nunes was on top twice. Seven of the Top 10 riders have an event win, and 13 of the Top 20 have a victory.
Mauney, who has finished second in the world for two consecutive years, is making a late-season surge to overcome No. 1 Meier, who leads by just over 500 points.
