Round 1 - Tampa Invitational

Tampa, Fla. (January 30, 2010) - LJ Jenkins (Texico, N.M.) may have taken home the round win at the Tampa Invitational, but it was the new kids on the 2010 BFTS tour that made the most impressive showing of the evening at the St. Pete Times Forum.

With 88.5 points on Circle T Ranch & Rodeo’s Outta Da Red, Jenkins walked away with the Round 1 win and $2,730 in his bank account. Second place went to Austin Meier (Kinta, Okla.), who stayed on Flashpoint, owned by Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC, for 87.5 points and $1,950. Young cowboy Skeeter Kingsolver (Mclouth, Kans.) came in third on Road Rage (Lufkin Ranch & Rodeo) getting 86.7 points and $1,170. Travis Briscoe (Edgewood, N.M.) rode Legacy from Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls/Bryan Smith for 86.5 points, putting him in fourth place for the evening.

There was a tie for 5th and 6th place between superstar J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) and Jody Newberry (Ada, Okla.), who is making his return to the BFTS for the first time since 2007. Mauney stayed on Colored By Bad (Walton & Wagoner Bucking Bulls) while Newberry rode Navajo Rug (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo) for 85.25 points.

And even though not all of the “new” riders place in the top 5, all but one was in the top 10 in the standings at the end of the night. Another North Carolina rider, J.C. Navarro (Archdale, N.C.), tied for 7th and 8th place with Caleb Sanderson (Kissimmee, Fla.), while Brazilian cowboy Fabiano Vieria (Perola, PR, Brazil) walked away with 11th place for the night.

The Tampa Invitational continues tomorrow, promising another action-packed round as the top 40 bull riders in the world compete to see who will take home the coveted event title. Don’t miss the final two rounds of the Tampa Invitatioanl when it airs on VERSUS tomorrow, Sunday, January 31, 2010, at 8:00pm ET. Check your local listings for more details.
