PBR in Talahassee

PBR superstar Brian Canter takes first Tallahassee event title after riding 2007 Bull of the Year.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 8, 2009) - The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) set the Leon County Civic Center on fire as the PBR’s Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) bucked into Tallahassee, Fla., for the Troy-Bilt Invitational presented by Cooper Tires, stop #8 on the prestigious tour. Fans were treated to the 40 best bull riders in the world, all competing against top bulls from across the country. In the end, North Carolina’s Brian Canter (Randleman, N.C.) emerged victorious after scoring 261.75 points on three bulls, taking home the first-ever Tallahassee event title. Canter added $30,596 dollars to his bank account as well as valuable points to his 2009 Built Ford Tough Series World Standings.

“It feels great to get an event title so early in the season,” Canter commented after winning the title. “I’m really fired up about 2009 after this, especially after being cut earlier this year. I feel really good and I’m looking forward to the Oklahoma City event.”

In round one, Canter scored 85.25 points on Robinson/Tedesco’s bull, Eviction. He followed that up by a third place finish in round two after riding the bull, Spotted Rivets, owned by Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls, for 87 points. He entered the Built Ford Tough Championship Round with a total of 172.25 points, where he picked the 2007 PBR Bull of the Year, Chicken on a Chain, in the PBR Bull Draft. Canter covered Robinson/Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy/Broken N-N’s top animal for 89.75 points---winning not only the Championship Round, but the event title.

“The ride went really well,” Canter said about his short-go ride. “Chicken on a Chain was spinning and just kicking over his head the whole time. I couldn’t have asked for a better bull in this short round.”

Taking second place in Tallahassee was Brazilian superstar Robson Palermo (Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil) who scored 261.25 points, adding $17,316 to his bank account. Palermo was the only other rider to ride all three of his bulls at the event. Finishing third was young gun Cody Campbell (Summerville, Ore.) who totaled 175 points and collected a check for $11,386 while PBR veteran Brian Herman (Victoria, Texas) rode for 174.5 points and took home $$7,870. Rounding out fifth place was fan favorite Luke Snyder (Raymore, Mo.) who scored 172.5 points in Tallahassee and added $4,350 to his 2009 earnings.

The race for PBR’s million dollar world title takes the top 40 bull riders in the world to Oklahoma for stop nine on the prestigious BFTS tour. PBR will invade Oklahoma City’s Ford Center on February 13-15, showcasing the best bull riders and the toughest bulls in the country. The VERSUS network airs PBR events every Saturday and Sunday evening. Be sure to check www.pbrnow.com for upcoming cities, ticket information, and complete broadcast times.

BEHIND THE CHUTES:
Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s “Ride with the Best” Bonus:

Due to his round one win at the Tampa Invitational, current #1 bull rider J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during round one of the Troy-Bilt Invitational. Because of his qualified ride on the bull, Rude Awakening, owned by Chad Berger Bucking Bulls, Mauney was awarded the $5,000 bonus.

Kasey Hayes (Liberal, Kan.) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during round two of the Troy-Bilt Invitational due to his round one win in Tallahassee. Hayes was bucked off of the bull, Alligator Chomp, before the eight second whistle; therefore, the stock contractor, Frontier Rodeo Company, collected the $5,000 bonus check.

As the winner of round two, Cody Campbell (Summerville, Ore.) will be eligible for the bonus at the 9th BFTS stop in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Ford Truck Moment of Truth Bonus:
Cody Campbell
(Summerville, Ore.) was in the lead going into the Built Ford Tough Championship Round and ultimately did not win the Troy-Bilt Invitational presented by Cooper Tires. As the $10,000 bonus was not claimed, it will increase to $15,000 at next weekend’s Express Classic in Oklahoma City, Okla. The bonus grows by $5,000 each week if it is not claimed. Once claimed, it returns to $5,000.

Ford F-150 Challenge:
As the Troy-Bilt Invitational event winner, Brian Canter (Randleman, N.C.) has qualified for a chance to compete at the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, against all other 2009 Built Ford Tough Series event winners. The Ford F-150 Challenge contestant who finishes the highest in the event aggregate during the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals will win a brand-new 2009 F-150 truck.

Salem NationaLease Bull of the Event:
The bull, Code Blue, owned by Walton & Wagoner Bucking Bulls, earned Bull of the Event honors with a score of 46.5 points in Tallahassee. This honor is acknowledged by an award of $1,250 going to the top bull of each event as determined by the PBR judges’ bull score.
